Self hosted solution similar to slack

So I am not an apple person despite having an iPhone, and dislike
google chat/hangouts. So I am looking for something that can be self
hosted, with iOS app that can be used in Windows/Mac OS/iOS etc.

Suggestions? I do not need all the power of slack. It would be
literally just a couple of people.

How about good old [IRC](https://awesome-
selfhosted.net/tags/communication---irc.html)?  Self-host the server
and pretty sure you can find a number of good clients for any OS out
there.

Check out Rocket Chat. It's very similar to Slack. Also, try Zulip
Chat or Tinode.

The easiest self hosted chat app is
[https://scramble.wip2p.com](https://scramble.wip2p.com) although it
doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the larger projects like
Matrix or Mattermost.

Zulip is the best alternative , mattermost / maxtrix offer nothing new
compare to slack.
Zulip gives much better organization and best for the teams.
