Help configuring my first self hosted servicies reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- logos88 · 2023-10-04 12:42 Hi! I'm new in this and still with lot of doubts and things to learn. I'm trying to config a selfhosted system mainly for the next porpuses: * Jellyfin+Sonarr+Radarr * self hosted VPN + Pihole * Backups from my laptop and my smartphone gallery * Other minor things like Mealie or RSS What kind of configuration would be the best for a newcomer like me? Promox, TrueNas, Open Media Vault, ...? 1 or more HDD/SSD? I'm a little lost and a little of guidance would be very helpful. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilkidsuave · 2023-10-04 12:55 You would probably want to use docker with a portainer setup to manage these services. Multiple drives would be better for price/GB and backups/raid. SSD for boot, either type for storage. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Spuxilet · 2023-10-04 13:00 For newcomer i would suggest just install debian server on your homelab, then just install docker on it and start portainer using simple compose file like this one `version: "3"` `services:` `portainer:` `image: portainer/portainer-ce:2.19.1-alpine` `container_name: portainer_ce` `restart: unless-stopped` `ports:` `- 8000:8000` `- 9000:9000` `- 9443:9443` `networks:` `portainer_network:` `volumes:` `- portainer_ce_data:/data` `- /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock:ro` `networks:` `portainer_network:` `name: portainer_network` `volumes:` `portainer_ce_data:` `name: portainer_ce_data` Then open your browser and portainer will be accessible on [http://localhost:9000](http://localhost:9000) From there you will be able to easily run services by creating stacks or using templates which you will see in there. Then start learning how things are done. How you can manage networks, volumes and so on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- logos88 · 2023-10-04 13:07 I\`\`ll look at it thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- logos88 · 2023-10-04 13:07 Thanks I\`\`ll look at it!
