Do Seafile, FileRun or Pydio Cells have any telemetry or DRM? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AGreenTejada · 2023-10-04 06:49 Hey all, Dropbox's web UI has basically screwed up for us. We're getting latencies of 1 - 5 minutes on a page load of the website, which has caused morale damage when we need to open hundreds of pages throughout the day. Since our data is highly personal and needs to be kept secret, we've been looking into migrating out to a self-hosted solution on Azure. The product should: \- have a fast UI \- integrate with an existing identity provider with directory/file level access restrictions \- be secure - the product can't send any customer information anywhere than our infra \- be relatively cheap - around $100 - $300 for the year From my research, it looks like seafile is the ideal product fit in this area. I've tested it out locally, so I can confirm points 1, 3, and 4. However, does anyone know about the status of #2? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProKn1fe · 2023-10-04 06:56 For #2 you can see nextcloud. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AGreenTejada · 2023-10-04 07:00 Sorry, I messed up the ordering here, I've taken a look regarding the OAuth documentation, and we should be able to work with it on the Pro model. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jkirkcaldy · 2023-10-04 07:40 I’m pretty sure Seafile does not send any data back to anywhere. Though it’s all open source so you can check yourself. Also, we use Seafile at work. The reason we went for Seafile over alternatives is that it’s far more performant. I use Nextcloud at home so I have experience with that too. I would have preferred to use Nextcloud but in my testing Seafile was the better fit. My use case is primarily large video files so take from that what you will. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bonyuri · 2023-10-04 10:34 SeaFile is great. When I tested NextCloud a while ago (2+ years) it felt much slower, even though I wasn’t serving massive amounts of files with it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- phein4242 · 2023-10-04 10:38 Search for http/rpc calls in the config and/or sourcecode. Also, run tcpdump while running seafile and check+identify all outgoing connections.
