What's the best way to have a simple movie/TV Show setup for the end
user?

I would like to setup a way for my family to turn on the TV and have a
similar, seamless experience to watching Netflix, etc., like using an
LG TV App (controlled with the TV remote) or a streaming app running
on a PS5. Are there self hosted solutions that could do this?

I have a portainer/docker setup on a raspberry pi 4 and an external
drive. I'm comfortable with the technical side of things, but I just
don't know of all the options/services out there.  Which ones are the
best? Is there something better than Plex that works on an LG TV or
PS5?

I use Jellyfin with Infuse ($$) on an AppleTV, and it's pretty slick.
Whole family uses it no problems.

Plex app on LG TV is the easiest.

Jellyfin is available as an LG webOS app. Server login with user and
pass and its just like netflix. Super simple for non techies.

Plex app on roku tv is one option.

The rpi could serve as your Plex server but your content would need to
be in formats that could play directly with no transcoding required.

Jellyfin on firestick works fine for me.

I have it selfhosted with my domain pointing to it.

Infuse is a great app. I use a very similar setup for on-demand
viewing, and I have Channels DVR for IPTV.
