OPML Files Syncing? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WickedWizard3588 · 2023-10-03 05:04 Hello there, I use RSS on both my phone and PC, using Feeder and NewsFlash. I'd like to know about an RSS Feed setup: 1. That syncs only feed list (the data contained in the OPML files) (not the feeds) 2. Automatically imports the latest feeds list into NewsFlash and Feeder (I can switch apps if necessary) Something like FreshRSS wouldn't work here since the FreshRSS servers pulls the feeds and requires me to be within the connection of the server to receive said feeds. (Currently not possible for me). I only want the OPML Feed List synced between devices and don't care about my feed history. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NikStalwart · 2023-10-03 08:31 > I only want the OPML Feed List synced between devices and don't care about my feed history. Can you use normal file sync tools for this? I don't use RSS on iPhone so I don't know if your app supports reading OPML from the FIles App dynamically, but, if it does, just run some kind of sync (in my case I'd use Google Drive Sync/fs) and voila! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adamshand · 2023-10-03 08:53 Why do you want to sync the OPML file and not the actual feeds? I'm not aware of any RSS client/server that works that way, they normally import / export an OPML file but use don't use the OPML for actually tracking feeds. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WickedWizard3588 · 2023-10-03 13:12 Most of the time, I'm outside my house and I prefer to have all my selfhosted stuff that works inside my local network only. Having to connected to a selfhosted instance every single time to fetch new feeds isn't exactly feasible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WickedWizard3588 · 2023-10-03 13:15 It does support reading OPML files, but I'd have to import my new updated OPML files into my Phone/PC manually. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NikStalwart · 2023-10-03 14:24 I don't quite understand what you are saying here: can your RSS app read files from cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, Nextcloud, iCloud, OneDrive, or the 'Files' app on iOS)? If not, then you need something that can sync over the network directly — and I believe you ruled that out using a server-based RSS solution. Without doing it manually, without using a server, and without the capability to read from synced folders, I don't know how you think this would work. Or maybe I just don't get where you're coming from.
