Cannot add RSS feed to selfhosted FreshRSS instance? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Illuminated_Humanoid · 2023-10-02 19:07 Hi friends. I just got around to selfhosting FreshRSS on my NAS via docker. All seems to work fine in terms of accessing the instance after install except I cannot add any feeds. I tried adding feeds in the web based interface with no success and I also tried via the android app 'feedme' which allows me to sign in via my API password but I can't seem to get feeds I've subscribed to to appear when syncd. What am I missing here? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zoredache · 2023-10-02 19:59 What happens exactly when you try to add? Does it give you an error? Does it hang, or what? Be more specific. Is there any errors if you look at the container logs? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Illuminated_Humanoid · 2023-10-02 20:31 When I add the feed URL, I get a little popup at the top of the page that says "item could not be added" then it says if I want I can add #force_feed to the url which I have tried and does nothing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- geo38 · 2023-10-02 20:32 I've never had any issues. I click on "Subscription management" on the left, then choose "Add a feed or category" from the list on the left, and paste the URL into the "Feed URL:" box on the right. Give us the URL of the feed you're trying to add. Perhaps it's bad. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Illuminated_Humanoid · 2023-10-02 20:35 https://i.postimg.cc/ry5BXMTM/Screenshot-20231002-133340-Firefox.jpg ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Illuminated_Humanoid · 2023-10-02 20:38 https://www.neowin.net/news/rss/ Yea I'm puzzled by this. I've tried so many different feeds and nothing adds. I gave you one example above to test. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zoredache · 2023-10-02 20:43 If you are getting the force_feed notice, that suggests that either you aren't giving it a valid RSS feed. Or the container, can't actually connect to the web site for some reason. You might want to do some basic tests to figure that out. If you can, ssh to your docker host, and run the netshoot container, and connect to the fresshrss contianer namespace. # docker run --rm -it --net container:freshrss nicolaka/netshoot Inside the netshoot container attached to the freshrss namespace see if you can ping google.com see if you can resolve names. Try doing a `curl https://ifconfig.me` try doing a `curl https://some-rss- feed.example.org/feed`. If that is failing, then something is broken about networking on your docker host, the specific docker network. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- geo38 · 2023-10-02 20:51 Shucks, "worked for me" is not what you wanted to hear: https://i.imgur.com/wql1gYG.jpg I'm also running in Docker. Did you specify any volume(s) ? In particular did you map '/var/www/FreshRSS/data' Do you have file permissions problems between RSS in docker and your host file system? Perhaps FreshRSS is having problems writing to your host file system? Are you using a bind mount or are you letting docker manage the volume? There can more often be permissions issues with bind mounts. Try running without the volume mapping for /var/www/FreshRSS/data - you'll lose any changes done when you remove the container but you can try it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Illuminated_Humanoid · 2023-10-02 21:02 Your response helped me realize what it was. Had to create a firewall rule to allow the FreshRSS docker containers IP to pass through.
