Manage selfhosted game servers via Discord bots reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PurchaseFamous6162 · 2023-10-02 11:38 Hello, my current homemade server doesn't have much power. I have 4 Servers, Minecraft Vanilla, Minecraft Modded, Terraria Vanilla and Terraria Modded. I've tried making a discord bot that listen to people with the appropriate role and then does the changes I want, however I am unable to find out how to properly execute .ink, .ps1 and .bat because I've started learning JS 12 hours ago. Does anyone know how to add such function to my bot or are there simpler/better or already existing alternatives? The reason to this is because of the mentioned Performance management and because I want my friends to easily start instances via Discord commands. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Stetsed · 2023-10-02 12:13 So firstly be very careful what and how bots can execute commands as it can become very dicey very quickly. Secondly I would say it would probally be better to switch to linux for this as it's much more scriptable imho(If you put the servers in a Systemd service or a Docker container it's 1 command to down them and 1 command to up them which should be easy to trigger via JS.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PurchaseFamous6162 · 2023-10-02 12:38 the thing is, i have 0 linux experience. I am very experienced with Windows though ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Stetsed · 2023-10-02 12:59 Okay so this is up to you, but assuming you are running inside of the NodeJS runtime you can use the child\_process package to spawn a process executing the batch files ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PurchaseFamous6162 · 2023-10-02 12:59 i really wonder why i constantly get downvoted on all of my questions in any sub ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PurchaseFamous6162 · 2023-10-02 13:00 I've actually tried that, in one of my attempts it actually gave me a window in Windows stating the OS cannot find the specified file, but I cannot make it find the file, even if I use relative or absolute paths. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lesigh · 2023-10-02 13:18 Lookup web panels like pterodactyl Then just write basic discord commands that explain how to manage said game ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VVaterTrooper · 2023-10-02 16:22 At one point you had 0 Windows experience. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PurchaseFamous6162 · 2023-10-02 17:06 yeah, but acquiring this experience took years. I was planning to switch to linux on my server anyways, but not now.
