Android refused to connect to Plex reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TuneCompetitive2771 · 2023-10-02 10:37 Hello, good people I run a family-only plex server and recently moved from google domain to cloudflare. My server is behind NAT so I'm using cloudflare tunnel with cache bypass. We can open plex.domain.tld just fine on pc/laptop and our iphones outside of our local network. But we are greeted with a "404 page not found" when trying to opening it on android be it with chrome or firefox browser outside of our local network. The same happens with plex app. It can open on iphones but cant on androids. Please help me with this problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cylian91460 · 2023-10-02 10:51 r/Plex ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cylian91460 · 2023-10-02 10:51 Seem a DNS issue, switch everyone to 1.1.1.1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-02 10:52 /r/Plex /r/Cloudflare ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TuneCompetitive2771 · 2023-10-02 10:55 It works! Maybe the problem was because I recently moved to cloudflare and it haven't propagate on google or something? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hdddanbrown · 2023-10-02 11:05 Only if by "recently" you mean 10 minutes or absolulutely worst case maybe one hour ago. DNS propagation between large providers is usually <5 minutes. If you switched days ago the problem is something else. You switching your client DNS to Cloudflare and its working is just barely a hotfix, any other clients will still have trouble connecting... unless you make your entire family switch to using Cloudflares DNS... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hdddanbrown · 2023-10-02 11:06 Thats not a proper solution. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TuneCompetitive2771 · 2023-10-02 11:07 I switched about 8 hours ago, and true enough I just checked on a friend of mine and he can't open it on his android phone ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cylian91460 · 2023-10-02 11:07 Yeah the proper solution is to connect DNS resolver of everyone ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GolemancerVekk · 2023-10-02 17:04 Use a terminal app on Android (Termux by Fredrik Fornwall or Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevich) and type the command `nslookup plex.domain.tld` (with your own domain name of course). The result will look something like this: Server: A.B.C.D Address 1: A.B.C.D Name: plex.domain.tld Address 1: W.X.Y.Z The first IP (A.B.C.D) is the DNS server that Android is using and the second (W.X.Y.Z) is what it resolves your domain to. Also use [this tool](https://dnschecker.org/all-dns-records-of- domain.php) and see what the various servers in their dropdown have to say about plex.domain.tld's record type A. You can also achieve the same by adding an extra parameter to nslookup, for example `nslookup plex.domain.tld 9.9.9.9` will ask Quad9, 8.8.8.8 is Google, 1.1.1.1 is Cloudflare. Android devices are often forced to use 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS) so my first guess would be that your Android devices do too, and that Cloudflare DNS and Google DNS give different answers for plex.domain.tld.
