Looking to replace the current use of "Saved Messages" from Telegram reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NihmarThrent · 2023-10-02 09:24 Hi, I don't really know if what I want to do is reasonable and/or possible. At the moment I use the chat "Saved Messages" of Telegram as a big cross-platform clipboard for text and files between my devices. What I would like to achieve is to have a self hosted analogous functionality (it has to support Android and Windows), but it should not completely replace it. Let me explain: I have an OpenMediaVault NAS at home, which I access through Tailscale. I don't want to setup a reverse proxy and all of that. What I would like to achieve is this: * Have a service running on the server which contains texts and files like the "Saved Message" of Telegram, so ordered by date and time * Have an app (be it native or a web-app) for Android and Windows which lets me access those things * Possibly a way to sync the Telegram "Saved Messages" to this service of the server, at least one way (Telegram -> Service) I think that for the last point it would be enough to write a bot hosted on the server which handles this, but for the service I'm actually clueless. As for why I want to keep Telegram in the flow of this, it's for the ease of use and because I don't use any other kind of messagging app, so often what I want to save comes from Telegram. Also at work I can't install my VPN, but I can open telegram on a web browser. Hope the flair is correct ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-02 09:38 Signal > Note to self? Other than that any notes taking app that you can selfhost will do. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NihmarThrent · 2023-10-02 09:49 Wouldn't that be exactly like sending things to the "Saved Messages" of Telegram? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-02 09:50 Yes, but secure, unlike Telegram. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NihmarThrent · 2023-10-02 09:51 And that I understand, I might consider it, but it is not what I'm looking for sadly ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-02 09:52 As I said, any note taking app does what you need. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NihmarThrent · 2023-10-02 09:53 But what about the files? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-02 09:53 Most note taking apps allow pasting of files. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- allmwh · 2023-10-02 09:55 memos https://github.com/usememos/memos ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NihmarThrent · 2023-10-02 09:57 Can I put any kind of file in a memo? Is so this could be interesting ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NihmarThrent · 2023-10-02 10:11 It would be feasible, the problem is that it is extremely fast to use the that feature of Telegram/Signal. I'll try memos as suggested by u/allmwh and see if it works. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tamdelay · 2023-10-02 11:23 VNC/RDP does copy and paste ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NihmarThrent · 2023-10-02 14:19 THIS was the solution ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NihmarThrent · 2023-10-03 07:25 That wasn't the solution I wanted, but I nice to have/know. Thanks!
