Looking for inventory management system for Canning. reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mattman0123 · 2023-09-29 14:30 Good day all, Our family does a lot of canning well over 300+ jars of some things for a year. i need a way to inventory and track there whereabouts. So here is the required goal: * able to create QR code for the jars (need to be small enough to fit on the lids) * able to scan QR code to add 1 to inventory * able to scan QR code to remove 1 from inventory * Bulk adding QR Codes would be a nice to have * able to locate them in 2 different locations. Nice to haves: * able to loan out jars * able to scan from android and iphone * easy to use * rolling count of Jars in use/ how many we actually have I have tried Homebox, although very very nice, I found it lacking some features. I am hoping they really expand the ability to update the quantities faster. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MaliciousMango1 · 2023-09-29 14:39 I'm sure you could get SnipeIT to accomplish this! Its a great program. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mattman0123 · 2023-09-29 14:40 If you think so I could give it a try. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nashosted · 2023-09-29 16:00 Just tossing Grocy into the race. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- javijuji · 2023-09-29 18:04 I am curious about canning now. Do you cook food for a whole year? What are the benefits of canning vs freezing? Is it a fun family activity? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mattman0123 · 2023-09-29 18:10 Since we have a few allergies in and around our household, it makes it easy to know what is in our food. We grow most of the food our self. but we also butcher our own meat so our freezers are usually full. So canning allows us to do a lot more items; we do salsa, soup, apple pie filling, grapes jam, tomato sauce, pickled items, and more depends on the fruit/veggie yield for the year. We also split this between 2 or more families. We also freeze dry a lot of food, this allows us to bring safe food while we travel. We end up saving a lot of money when traveling by bringing our own premade meals. We eat like kings anywhere! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mattman0123 · 2023-09-29 18:10 I looked into this. I will have to test to see how well it fits. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- javijuji · 2023-09-29 18:56 This sounds very wholesome. Thank you for sharing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mattman0123 · 2023-09-29 19:01 Any Time!
