Setting up a VM in Proxmox that I can access from the web reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiltroMan · 2023-09-28 11:04 Hi there folks, I've been running Proxmox for a couple of years now and this morning I had an idea regarding setting up a VM (I don't mind any OS in particular), but now I'm wondering if and how can I make it so that I can access it from the web. I tried setting up MeshCentral but I keep messing up the configuration for WAN mode, as I already have my own bought domain and configuration in Nginx Proxy Manager. Do you have any suggestions on how can something like this be implemented? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- levogevo · 2023-09-28 11:43 Nginx proxy manager ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiltroMan · 2023-09-28 11:44 I think something's amiss, I already have it set up, does it mean that as long as I create an entry for the IP of the machine I can just RDP using the web address or what? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- levogevo · 2023-09-28 11:46 I'm not an expert on mesh central but a quick look at it leads me to believe you'd have a subdomain pointed to mesh central and mesh central would give you access to the vms you seek. Probably need a custom npm config or just add websockdt support. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PunyDev · 2023-09-28 12:09 Take a look at Teleport: https://github.com/gravitational/teleport I use Teleport as a gateway to my Proxmox which is protected by Authentik. You can configure it to other linux servers via ssh as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Krost_ · 2023-09-28 12:47 You can use a reverse proxy (nginx or traefik) and expose proxmox at a your subdomain (be careful to secure it) or take a look at something like Guacamole Remote Desktop, install it on your VM and expose this service instead. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiltroMan · 2023-09-28 13:52 My Proxmox instance is already accessible via web, so should I just go ahead and access my VM via my Proxmox instance instead of having a separate means of connecting to that specific VM? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PunyDev · 2023-09-28 15:16 not sure about your use case, but I occasionally require access to my VMs and admin consoles when travelling. Only my VPN and home public IP are whitelisted to access Teleport. Once authenticated with 2FA I will have access to my VMs and admin pages that were configured. On the exception cases where I really need to access my VMs where I am unable VPN, I will manually whitelist the required IP in Cloudflare console for temporary access. 1 nice thing about Teleport is that SSH sessions can be recorded for review. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sternbear87 · 2023-09-28 15:33 I just installed rustdesk on the VM and that's it. I can access it via the rustdesk app from anywhere. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiltroMan · 2023-09-28 16:05 I'll dig deeper into this, if I have to rely on external solutions, I might as well just try and self host said external solution ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arcadianarcadian · 2023-09-28 21:25 [https://ostechnix.com/access-proxmox-virtual-machine-with- spice/](https://ostechnix.com/access-proxmox-virtual-machine-with- spice/) maybe?
