Best way to monitor stuff on a local basis? (minimal software required?) reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Akirapearl · 2023-09-28 09:31 Hi there! So, at the time of writing i only have one server which is self hosting photoprism for image visualization/wallpaper vault of some sort. Even though I am planning on installing more stuff, I would like to know how can I monitor some "minimal" metrics the simplest way possible. * CPU/RAM usage * Storage available * Up/Download speeds, as in internet speed test I don't really need something too complex, I can take rid of the first two points via htop and df -h command or like gotop, but i would prefer to have sort of a browser GUI i can connect to. I am aware of systems as grafana, but i wonder if that's the main go- to service, or there is something better for a rather smaller scope, as I do not intend to get too much into homelabs (just the bare minimum or like learning-oriented tasks i can make with my current setup) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ch4ngn01 · 2023-09-28 09:55 I use Glances, https://nicolargo.github.io/glances/ I'm not sure if it monitors bandwidth but I'm sure it does. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sternbear87 · 2023-09-28 10:43 netdata ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nik_h_75 · 2023-09-28 10:47 Homepage (docker) with glances is a real easy way to get basic stats. https://github.com/benphelps/homepage#information-widgets ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NikStalwart · 2023-09-28 11:00 [netdata](https://github.com/netdata/netdata) is what you are looking for. Has a local (web) dashboard. Can scale when you need to, isn't super resource hungry. You can then use it as a prometheus collector when you put on the big boy pants. I would not go down the prometheus+grafana route for your first server though, unless you really want to tinker with it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opensrcdev · 2023-09-28 14:34 InfluxDB is an all-in-one solution, except you need to run Telegraf to gather & send metrics to it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- octahexx · 2023-09-28 18:00 Librenms ---------------------------------------------------------------------- michael_sage · 2023-09-28 19:22 I really rate openitcockpit. It's agent is really good and works with push or pull and it also supports nagios plugins and nrpe ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Plain-Tangerine3715 · 2023-09-29 04:31 I have 4 hosts, and it was great to run influxdb (which includes the ui!) in a docker container on one host and write a little script to scrape and send data from each host to influxdb. I had been thinking about this project for a couple months and was done in a couple hours, perfect combo for me! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- creativve18 · 2023-10-11 05:39 OpManager
