[Looking for assistance] setup subdomains to points to various services reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Holiday-Advance-7524 · 2023-09-28 08:12 Hi there. I have been struggling to set various services like portainer, nginx proxy manager, nextcloud, and other services to point to a subdomain like: [sub.mydomain.com](https://sub.mydomain.com) I'm using a dedi machine that is rented from abroad. The machine is primarily used for a project related to a Minecraft game server. A web server related to this is already set up and working just fine (Via Nginx). I have encountered various issues with this. Bad Gateway errors, Port conflict errors, and so on. I was hoping someone here might have the time and be willing to assist me in the process over a discord call. I currently have access to Portainer and NginxProxyManager via [https://publicip](https://publicip):port ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hrs-47 · 2023-09-28 09:59 Are all your services in the same docker network? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Holiday-Advance-7524 · 2023-09-28 10:00 Im too green to understand what that means lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Holiday-Advance-7524 · 2023-09-28 10:11 Researching a bit and slowly trying to understand how docker works. Some of my services are on the same network. Do they all need to be on the same network or should they be separated? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- danclaysp · 2023-09-28 10:25 Point the subdomains to your server and have nginx proxy requests. The server blocks just need the server_name property to the respective block’s subdomain. Read up on the nginx docs for how it works. It’s a main use case of reverse proxies. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nik_h_75 · 2023-09-28 12:49 Each container has an exposed port on your server (8080, 9000, etc). Nginx Proxy Manager should be mapped to port 80 and 443 on your server. In nginx you map the subdomain (xxx.domain-name.xx) to your docker server ip:port. That is how the reverse proxy matches the incoming request (url) to the internal port (container) on your server). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lgb111 · 2023-09-28 16:37 For nginx to reach them they would need to be on the same network. I would just make a nginx network and add nginx and other containers that need internet to it
