Backup solution with readable archives reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- not-the-real-chopin · 2023-09-27 08:13 I'm using [Duplicati](https://github.com/duplicati/duplicati) to perform a backup of personal files to Google Drive. I don't like the fact that the archives are unreadable and I'm looking for a similar software that uses zip/tar. I understand this may not be possible with incremental backups, but for the truly important files I'm fine with having a full backup each day. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-09-27 08:20 You want a backup but it has to be browsable via your file browser? How do you want to handle file history? I mean windows can do this natively with VSS and “previous versions” where you can see the folder/file in the past, but that does not work with Google Drive, you need a windows server for that. Veeam has a file browser for backups but I guess that’s out of scope since you want to use Google drive? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- not-the-real-chopin · 2023-09-27 08:37 not necessarely via my browser. I'm fine if I can download the archive(s) on my computer and check the files. I know that a common solution is to use [rclone](https://rclone.org/) but the user interface from duplicati is much nicer. I wish duplicati and rclone made a child :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arekxy · 2023-09-27 09:04 [https://kopia.io/](https://kopia.io/) should be able to do that. I mean it doesn't use zip/tar but allows to mount archives to access them just like accessing regular files in folder. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- just-forest · 2023-09-27 15:02 +1 for Kopia I've tried Rclone, Duplicati, Borg and others and Kopia is the first one that just worked for me. Being able to mount an old snapshot of my folders is great. You could also switch Google Drive to Backblaze B2 fairly easily. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-09-27 17:11 Rsnapshot ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-09-27 17:13 You can mount borg repositories as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- not-the-real-chopin · 2023-09-29 04:44 thanks, I updated the post with my current approach using Kopia. The usage with google drive is stil a bit complex, but seems to work pretty good. thanks again for the hint. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PoSaP · 2023-09-29 21:49 Well, I would say that Rclone can sync data across anything.
