Encrypted Cloud solutions for keeping very little local data reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- vothvovo · 2023-09-27 01:06 I am looking for a setup that allows me to keep very little data on my phone(android) in case I lose it or it gets stolen. \- When I take pictures, they should be moved from my phone, into an encrypted cloud \- Same for Journal Entries, Notes, entries into a habit app and potentially more personal data in the future. The cloud should be encrypted, in case I make a mistake with self hosting and get hacked (also it would be nice that if my phone actually gets stolen, the person doesn't just access my cloud without having to de-crypt it with a password). I guess the challenge here is that I need to/want to hold onto the data for some time until I sent it to the cloud. I thought a solution could be to have an "unsafe space", which is kept for lets say 24h. And every 24h, I put pictures, notes, and so on, into the encrypted cloud. Then the apps I use for note taking, habits, journaling will have their data for the day without me having to provide tons of passwords every time I want to access it AND I get to have them stored in an encrypted cloud when I don't need them anymore. I guess another solution is to sync asap and if sucess delete after 24h? and every edit renews the 24h timer? idk. There is no way I am the first person to think of this. What's a good solution here? Is there software or a common setup for this kind of usecase? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TrustyworthyAdult · 2023-09-27 01:48 Nextcloud does all of this ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-09-27 06:36 It seems like you could use a NAS at home and store all your data there? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- borouhin · 2023-09-27 09:44 If you are so much worried about a thief accessing your data - why don't you just encrypt your phone? In fact, it should be already encrypted by default if it's a fairly recent Android/iOS, you should just use a password to unlock it (that's more secure than PIN or biometrics, but if you consider only the possibility of accidental theft, everything will suffice). As for cloud backup - any private cloud solution will do it, but your main problem may be getting files from all your applications. It's easy with photos, but your note-taking app may as well store it's data in some obscure proprietary internal database instead. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fedroxx · 2023-09-27 23:48 You're asking in the wrong sub.
