Giving hosted handbrake access to graphics card? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- notabot-i-promise · 2023-09-26 19:16 I'm looking to use https://github.com/jlesage/docker-handbrake. I'd like to batch convert some of my videos. However, I don't see any way to expose the container to my graphics card. How would I do that? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kn915 · 2023-09-26 19:27 You can enable gpu pass through on docker following the docs here [Docker docs](https://docs.docker.com/compose/gpu-support/) But basically is adding a device flag on the docker run command or the compose file ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lupine_Wonse · 2023-09-26 19:33 I do not think it is possible with containers/docker. The docker is lightweight virtualization, typically containers do not have direct access to the hardware (so no direct access to disks, networks and other hardware) on the host machine. You need to map network ports (in order to interact with the containerized app) and volumes (in order to provide persistent storage for the containerized app). If you want to have handbrake to use your graphics card you need to install in on the host machine, or use virtualization with PCI pass through (so that the guest os can access the graphics card) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- notabot-i-promise · 2023-09-26 19:36 Thank you. This is super helpful. I was looking at the project docs when I should have been looking at the docker docs. You saved me tons of time!
