Advice for NextCloud and Portainer reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pankompot · 2023-09-26 19:14 Hello, im asking for two advices, first one is that i use portainer for managing containers. I have also instaled Watchtower too, and problem is, when watchtower update nextcloud, i need to manually log in container and add "apt update" and "apt install smbclient", because default NC image donesn't include it. Where i can in portainer add this option after reacreating contaniner ? And restarting it probably, because after installing smbdclient i must restart it to make function access to NAS. And second is about migrationg google photos to NC. I followed TechHut YT video tutorial how to create Google API for NC, i succesfully added to NC, but when i run Photos migration nothing happens. On google API i see it wants to be listed (google.photos.library.v1.PhotosLibrary.ListSharedAlbums etc., but only once with no success). Any other better ideas how to migrate ? Thanks for help ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zealousideal_Rate420 · 2023-09-26 20:28 For the first part, you need to create a new image that imports from the one you are using and runs the two commands, something like >FROM > >RUN apt update > >RUN apt install -y smbclient In portainer you can add it on 'images' > create new image. I don't know however how to refresh the custom image after the source one is updated using portainer. Hopefully somebody can help For the second, just some warning. Google API does not pull the raw images. It's a reduced and some metadata is removed. If you care about those things, better use a checkout and load them manually. And one more advice. Portainer looks nice, but when something goes wrong it's more a hindrance than anything else. Mine just refuses to update stacks, I have to do each container manually. I just finished un-portainer my server because it was too much of an issue of late. CLI will always work, so unless you have too much stuff to manage on CLI, i'll advice you give it a try ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pankompot · 2023-09-27 18:48 Thank you for answer. I'll take a look at it
