Netmaker/Tailscale and Nextcloud on Unraid

Hello everyone,

I'm in need of some guidance regarding the setup of
[Netmaker](https://www.netmaker.io/) or
[Tailscale](https://github.com/Tailscale/) on Unraid. Initially, I was
considering Cloudflare Tunnel, but it seems to come with certain
limitations. While I have some knowledge about these alternatives, I
wouldn't say I'm an expert.

My goal is to configure them in a way that they exclusively run on the
network where I have Nextcloud deployed. I'd like to maintain
separation between networks. This setup is intended for my family and
friends, so if there's a straightforward way to expand connections,
I'd greatly appreciate the advice.

I hope this all makes sense.

Tailscale is dead simple. I don't have experience with Netmaker.

If all you want is your friends to be able to access the Nextcloud
server, nothing more, just install TS on your server, and invite your
friends to install TS on their clients.

If you want wider network access, or access to a gateway, that's
easily doable, but not required or allowed by default.

But yeah, TS is much simpler than netmaker. You can self host
Tailscale with headscale, but it doesn’t have a good UI for management
and the process of adding machines/clients is manual.


You can self host all of netmaker including the UI, but it’s super
rough. I couldn’t get it to work and the support/docs are pretty poor
and outdated.


I ended up with headscale because I only need to manage myself, but
take a look at netbird if you want management UI.

I use headacale-ui with my setup, it's a web app that lets you manage
your devices for headscale and renew or revoke keys, control
permissions, all with some nice themes in the browser.
