IRC NEWBIE WANTS HELP!!!! reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- soldierboy112 · 2023-12-31 11:56 Hello everyone, I am noob to IRC I don't have a lot of knowledge about IRC can someone tell me how to get started with IRC and what is the most secure and privacy oriented way to use it, how can I find more channels and active channels some website where IRC channels can be found and apart from it, I know IRC isn't the most secure but I have read that there are ways to make it, please guide me on that as well. Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zer0bitzz · 2023-12-31 14:08 I would recommend to use [Quassel](https://quassel-irc.org/) as your IRC client and for servers check out [this](https://www.irchelp.org/). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- soldierboy112 · 2023-12-31 14:11 Thank you, do you know how to discover active irc channels ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I_hate_mahjong · 2023-12-31 15:39 Before you begin this journey, do take some time to read up on the proper netiquette for communicating in IRC. The entire way you wrote this post would not go over well in most cases, especially in technical chats.... that being said there are a lot of chats out there... It is no ones job to guide you. IRC is great, but simple searching can lead to some good results. Reddit has its own irc servers/channels. IRC is a bit more technical than your modern day clients - and to realize the charm you will need to do your own digging and see what you want out of a client. I would recommend IRSSI since it was my first (and current) client but what is good for me might not be good for you. You can start [here](https://www.ircdriven.com/network/Rizon/channels/) to see what some active channels are in the Rizon server. but more importantly, why are you even interested in IRC. If you don't want to do your own research first, why not start with something very accessible and has a large userbase? Discord might be a better fit for you until you are ready to jump in. Welcome when you are ready. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- soldierboy112 · 2023-12-31 15:56 Actually english isn't my first language so sometimes I by mistake write thing which my request as a demand, I am sorry if u felt that way, I did search about irc and used a bit of libera.chat and a little bit of hexchat but, upon using it I was unable to find a lot of active IRC channels, a lot of them were communicating in short form thingies, now that u mention I think that's what I need to learn and incorporate to talk to people on irc. The reason I am interested in IRC is that I am basically a Script Kiddie if you will and I am somewhere between the line of something which is quite not legal if you will. Till now I was using Session as a communication link with guys who I was working with, but recently we thought of switching up to something where a lot of skids like us are, so I thought why not switch to something which has a great community and learn something as well. IRC looks and sounds cool both. So after it I hopped on Tails and looked up some famous channels where skids like me hangout but most of them were dead. Looking upon this subreddit I thought of asking. PS: I am not saying that people who use IRC are skids, I am just saying that I am one and I would like to meet like minded individuals that's all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- assemblrr · 2023-12-31 16:28 Okay, if r/irccirclejerk existed, this would be a pinned post. Well done. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jimmylipham · 2023-12-31 16:54 Once you're connected to a network, try /list and it'll show you all public channels. Some networks may require you to wait 30-60 seconds after connecting before you can list. https://netsplit.de/channels/popular.php is also a decent resource, however most large IRC channels will correspond to a certain project or community. The list I linked is mostly large open source project support channels. Find a community and dig in! Welcome to the party. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- soldierboy112 · 2023-12-31 16:57 ok thank you sir ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thischildslife · 2023-12-31 22:10 join irc.snoonet.org, the connection info is in the side-bar -->
