If I'm on a home network, behind a router, and don't have any devices actively listening for incoming connections on any dedicated ports, nor have any port forwarding set up... in this day and age, what can someone realistically do with my IP? Aren't they just gonna try to port scan me, find that my router gives them nothing to work with, and they move on? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- doping_deer · 2023-10-31 16:52 It's not the end of the world, but still leaks some information. For example your ISP and approximate location. For ipv4, behind a router nat is somewhat secure, but nowadays ISPs usually also hands out ipv6 which has no nat for that, if a service binds :: it is wide open on the internet. Plus in terms of hardware, some routers have services that runs on open port which is also a security risk.
