The problems with MATRIX in contrast to IRC. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- How_To_IRC · 2023-10-11 16:15 Ok, so when i do a search on [reddit.com/r/irc](https://reddit.com/r/irc) and i search "matrix" i get this [https://www.reddit.com/r/irc/search/?q=matrix&restrict\_sr=1](https:/ /www.reddit.com/r/irc/search/?q=matrix&restrict_sr=1) so i have done research and there are a few previous posts on r/irc documenting the advantages [https://www.reddit.com/r/irc/comments/15xwajf/what\_are\_advantages\_ of\_irc\_over\_matrix\_why\_would/](https://www.reddit.com/r/irc/comme nts/15xwajf/what_are_advantages_of_irc_over_matrix_why_would/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/irc/comments/11pxhlz/why\_still\_use\_irc\_w hen\_platforms\_like\_discord\_and/](https://www.reddit.com/r/irc/comm ents/11pxhlz/why_still_use_irc_when_platforms_like_discord_and/) and i know that the guys on r/irc are tired of answering why irc is better then matrix, so i'm going to post this as a sum up of the answers i have found on r/irc as to why IRC is in fact better then matrix. so, why is IRC better then matrix? 1\_MATRIX HAS HAD REPEATED FAILURES TO SEND MESSAGES matrix has apparently had documented problems with messages failing to send 2\_MATRIX HAS HAD REPEATED FAILURES TO NOTIFY ABOUT MESSAGES FAILING TO SEND matrix not only sometimes fails to send your messages, but it also fails to notify you that they failed to send at all. 3\_MATRIX HAS FAILED TO JOIN CHANNELS matrix just sometimes fails to join the channels you want without you being banned or timed out. 4\_MATRIX FAILS TO TELL YOU WHY IT CAN'T JOIN A CHANNEL matrix simply fails to tell you why it can't join a channel apparently 5\_HOME SERVERS REFUSE TO TALK TO EACH OTHER i have no idea what this means but apparently it happens 6\_MATRIX IS SUPPOSED TO BE "DECENTRALIZED" BUT ISN'T REALLY IN PRACTICE In practice, **matrix.org hosts a large portion of the users**, which in turn are admins in most rooms. (again i don't know what this means but apparently it's a problem in contrast to IRC) 7\_SYNAPSE ALSO DEFAULTS TO TRUSTING [MATRIX.ORG](https://MATRIX.ORG) AS A KEY SERVER idk what this means or why it's a problem but apparently it is. 8\_[https://status.matrix.org/](https://status.matrix.org/) is useless 9\_MATRIX IS RUNNING OUT OF MONEY, [https://matrix.org/blog/2022/12/25/the-matrix-holiday- update-2022/](https://matrix.org/blog/2022/12/25/the-matrix-holiday- update-2022/) 10\_MATRIX CLIENTS ARE LAGGY 11\_MATRIX MESSAGES AND CLIENTS TAKE MORE RESOURCES THEN IRC 12\_MATRIX CLIENTS AND MESSAGES TAKE UP MORE BANDWIDTH 13\_MATRIX CLIENTS TAKE MORE RAM MEMORY 14\_MATRIX CLIENTS TAKE MORE PROCESSING POWER 15\_MATRIX CLIENTS TAKE MORE STORAGE SPACE 16\_MATRIX CLIENTS HAVE A LOT OF DEPENDENCIES 17\_MATRIX CLIENTS DON'T HAVE THE CUSTOMIZATION ABILITIES OF IRC CLIENTS 18\_MATRIX AS HAS UP TO 10 MINUTE LAGS TO SEND MESSAGES so these are all the reasons i could find why matrix isn't as good as IRC, did i get all this correct? thank you
