This is so complicated to join. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Average_florida_boah · 2023-10-08 00:50 I am part of a tf2 server that wants me to join their IRC channel. It's my first time hearing about this thing. I've spent the entire afternoon figuring out what an IRC client is and how to actually make it work. It's so clunky and complicated. Do people really use this on 2023? Just had to vent. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mossman · 2023-10-08 00:55 Why do you kids say on instead of in? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Average_florida_boah · 2023-10-08 01:03 Meant to say in ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PurpleResort6266 · 2023-10-08 01:27 Yes, i am using irccloud. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LameBMX · 2023-10-08 01:39 its like reddit, instead of subs, one has channels. I mean literally every freaking thing is generally organized like IRC (though nods to bbs and usenet, which, to me, are the links between the og email protocals to live chat). join a discord server, join a channel, and speak to users. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- deepend_tilde · 2023-10-08 02:04 Worst case any irc network worth joining probably has a web client. Which might be easier. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xXgreeneyesXx · 2023-10-08 02:28 o and i are next to each other on the keyboard and a quick glance for typos tends to not catch it as on is a commonly used word ---------------------------------------------------------------------- McGoodotnet · 2023-10-08 03:21 It sounds like your are of the discord age group. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Average_florida_boah · 2023-10-08 03:33 "You are young. Therefore invalid post" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- McGoodotnet · 2023-10-08 04:10 That isn't what I said. I use discord to make my rss feeds look pretty. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ButItIsMyNothing · 2023-10-08 05:07 Is there a case that the slight technical hurdle keeps away the riffraff these days? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- masturkiller · 2023-10-08 07:34 IRC's motto should be, "If its too hard, then you're too young!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BRUT_me · 2023-10-08 07:36 "I've spent the entire afternoon figuring out what an IRC client is and how to actually make it work" you are american, right? 😄 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cu6up5lk · 2023-10-08 07:48 It's more like telegram. Public channels and private convos are available. Probably same goes for Viber and Watsapp. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LameBMX · 2023-10-08 10:24 nope. that's what '/mode username +m' was for ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Best-Technology-2168 · 2023-10-08 19:56 It’s easy enough! mirc.com (client) load client /server if with port /server eg /server irc.something.com + 6697 /list will list channels /join #channels ask them for a web client like https://web.envy.chat ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AlfredoVignale · 2023-10-08 23:49 Get hexchat, ask for the server info, enter data. ??? Profit. Not hard at all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Background_Fold8134 · 2023-10-12 12:49 You're probably just too dumb. Discord was made for kids like you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Average_florida_boah · 2023-10-12 14:33 Very unnecessarily rude. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- final_bawse · 2023-11-19 19:49 I was a professional software developer for years before I tried to join an IRC network. I was experienced with writing and deploying software on Linux, used Linux as my driver, etc. Connecting to IRC was hard for me at first. Read the docs and keep at it. It's worth it, because it's retro and cool 😎 and a lot of seriously cool technical projects use IRC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adolfcuckmann · 2023-12-17 01:10 people like u actively drive away youngsters . irc is already dying, why make it worse
