[ZNC] Can't connect to the IRC Network reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dublade · 2023-03-10 23:01 Hello, I already searched the board and asked for support/help on the #znc channel on liberachat Network without luck. I talked with a guy who asked me a huge amount of questions for troubleshooting purposes but didn't solved my problem so I hope to find here the solution. I'm using a free online shell (xshellz). This shell already have ZNC installed so I created successfully the config file insomuch that the bouncer connected immediately to the Network. I configured my IRC clients, mIRC and HexChat, and they connected successfully to the bouncer, already connected to the Network. A couple of days ago, all my Clients haven't been able to connect because ZNC was not connected to the Network. In the \*status window of the IRC clients I get these messages: "Cannot connect to IRC (Network is unreachable). Retrying..." "Disconnected from IRC (Success). Reconnecting..." and this heppens over and over. So I'm not able to understand what happened. As I said I asked support to ZNC help channel, I also asked to the community forum of the shell but nothing worked. I didn't change any setting of the config. Because of this some anti-spam measures may simply block the entire range of IP addresses a provider uses; and I've had to even ask for my ZNC to be whitelisted when it was hosted on AWS because some anti-spam measures didn't like it. Your best course of actions are to either use a paid host that's unlikely to be blocked, or, if you're able to get a static IP address for your ZNC, ask the netadmins of this IRC network to whitelist that IP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProgVal · 2023-03-11 00:46 "Network is unreachable" means your computer (well, the one ZNC is running on) cannot route IP packets the IRC server. Or possibly that your client cannot route to the bouncer, it's not clear from the error. Check you can ping it (on IPv4 and/or IPv6), that you got the hostname/IP address right, etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nawcom · 2023-03-11 05:41 Log onto your shell and use a plain cli irc client to connect from it and see if it works. Like irssi as an example. If you're denied a connection then your IP is blocked and has nothing to do with znc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dublade · 2023-03-11 22:20 I tried with IRSSI via shell and it doesn't connect so I think you are right, excellent troubleshooting method, thank you. Now I should open a ticket to the network admins asking to whitelist the shell IP or keep using a standard connection. I don't need the perpetual online presence, so I won't pay any money for a payd BNC nor a free one. Thak you very much u/nawcom
