Ist there any IRCnetwork that doesn't block commercial VPNs Like CyberGhost or Mullvad? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-02-19 14:16 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- skizzerz1 · 2023-02-19 15:15 You may find that the provider itself is not banned, but rather individual IPs that the provider uses are due to people abusing the network via the VPN. If that’s the case you have two options: 1. Keep cycling until you find an unblocked IP from that provider, or 2. (Better option) Ditch all of those commercial VPN providers. Get a cheap VPS and run a VPN server or bouncer on that instead for IRC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IvyCainTS · 2023-02-19 17:22 I never had any issues with any irc networks when I used PIA (Private Internet Access). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Always_saying_N0 · 2023-02-19 20:53 Some won’t let you and some won’t allow the dcc transfer. I use PIA too. However using dcc transfers with SSL is pretty well supported. So that’s honestly enough ---------------------------------------------------------------------- digwhoami · 2023-02-19 22:30 Don't DCC requires one to forward ports when behind a NAT setup? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- webvictim · 2023-02-19 23:45 Some PIA servers will let you have one remote port forwarded through to the machine running the VPN client so you can have two way traffic (for uploading torrents etc). It'd be possible to configure DCC to use this port for transferring files too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Always_saying_N0 · 2023-02-20 01:25 Yes like an FTP. But usually they’re open. As they tend to be ephemeral. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Always_saying_N0 · 2023-02-20 01:30 I’ve not seen this config on PIA however this wouldn’t matter. Changing your external IP doesn’t change your local PAT or NAT ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SadieCat69 · 2023-02-20 11:08 DCC is generally entirely unencrypted even if your connection to the IRC server is encrypted with SSL. There are some extensions that encrypt them but they're not really used. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SadieCat69 · 2023-02-20 11:08 Generally no because commercial VPN providers are a massive abuse source so they end up in DNSBLs pretty fast. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bertyplaygames · 2023-02-20 12:56 I have no issue to on most part but you can try. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bertyplaygames · 2023-02-20 12:57 i strongly agree with this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- webvictim · 2023-02-25 18:57 That doesn't matter when you're using a VPN client with remote port forwarding though. What they're effectively doing is tunnelling the remote port on the VPN host back to you through the same outgoing tunnel connection you've already made. There's no port forward required on your own router.
