Can't connect to Undernet at all reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ninecatmoons · 2022-12-04 18:52 Every time I try to connect to [irc.undernet.org](https://irc.undernet.org), I get the following messages: * Looking up irc.undernet.org * Connecting to irc.undernet.org * Connection failed (Connection timed out) Cycling to next server in Undernet... * Disconnected () The connecting part takes a while (usually a few minutes) before the connection failed message appears. I've tried other servers and the same thing happens with ALL of them. Port is 6667 and SSL is disabled. I don't know what to do. I can connect to irchighway just fine. Any help would be much appreciated, TIA. Edit 1: I'm using HexChat by the way. Edit 2: I ran telnet and got the below: C:\Windows\system32> telnet irc.undernet.org 6697 Connecting To irc.undernet.org...Could not open connection to the host, on port 6697: Connect failed C:\Windows\system32> telnet irc.undernet.org 6667 Connecting To irc.undernet.org...Could not open connection to the host, on port 6667: Connect failed ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-12-04 19:19 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IvyCainTS · 2022-12-04 23:08 Sounds like you got a firewall or your router itself is blocking connections to port 6697 All you will need to do is go into the firewall or router settings and open up port 6697 or port 9999 if you want to use SSL either for all your computers or just the machine you are using to connect to IRC with. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ninecatmoons · 2022-12-05 03:35 I opened up ports 6667, 6697 and 9999 through a firewall inbound rule and the same error messages show up in hexchat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SadieCat69 · 2022-12-05 03:47 Its unlikely that a home router would be blocking outgoing IRC connections. Its more likely that your ISP are blocking outgoing connections on port 6667 to prevent abuse. Are you using the built-in HexChat profile for IRCHighway? That connects using TLS on port 66**9**7 instead of 66**6**7. Unfortunately Undernet hasn't entered this millennium yet so it doesn't support TLS so you may be out of luck. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IvyCainTS · 2022-12-05 03:48 also needs outbound too, as it's a 2 way communication. I'll give hexchat a test as i normally use mirc since i paid for it years ago. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IvyCainTS · 2022-12-05 03:59 OK, may have found the issue, see if this works for you. Go to HexChat Menu, then to network list in new window that pops up, click on undernet server Select Edit In new window, change [US.Undernet.Org](https://US.Undernet.Org) to [newyork.ny.us.undernet.org](https://newyork.ny.us.undernet.org) Also while in that window, make sure to uncheck the box next to: Use SSL for all servers on this network. Once done, ok and close everything, then try connecting. Just did that myself and it logged in for me. More servers here if needed. [https://www.undernet.org/servers.php](https://www.undernet.org/server s.php) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ninecatmoons · 2022-12-05 04:18 Created the outbound rule and unchecked the box, still the same errors. * Looking up newyork.ny.us.undernet.org * Connecting to us.undernet.org (91.236.182.1:6667) * Connection failed (Connection timed out) Cycling to next server in Undernet... * Disconnected () I even changed the port to 6697 and tried connecting but the connection always fails. This happens with the other servers too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ninecatmoons · 2022-12-05 04:22 Yes, I didn't change any setting for IRCHighway apart from enabling SSL I think. So there's no workaround for me to connect to Undernet? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IvyCainTS · 2022-12-05 04:41 The only other thing it could be, though very rare it happens, is the ports are blocked by your internet provider. Check some of the other networks that are not undernet, if they have same issue, then contact your internet provider and ask if they block those ports by default and if so, can they open them for you. Been over 20+ years now but I had to do that with an internet company here in the UK. Either that, or try a vpn like windscribe free to see if that lets you connect. Sorry I can't be of more help than that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ninecatmoons · 2022-12-05 05:13 I don't know whether it's because my ISP is blocking the ports but I downloaded Windscribe and managed to connect to Undernet. Thank you so much for your help! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vulture051 · 2022-12-17 15:50 irchighway doesn't even exist for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DeusExCalamus · 2023-01-01 15:04 We're still here! Not as big as we used to be for sure, but still here. If you have any error messages, I'd love to see them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vulture051 · 2023-01-01 23:39 No error message, it's just not on the list. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DeusExCalamus · 2023-01-02 01:09 Oh! I remember reading about this. If you use Hexchat, they removed us from their default server lists because we use self-signed SSL certs. We're still online at irc.irchighway.net :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vulture051 · 2023-01-02 02:20 mIRC ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DeusExCalamus · 2023-01-02 02:24 If you want to dm me, I can try to help you sort it out, alternatively, you can use our webchat at https://webchat.irchighway.net to connect, but you won't be able to download or anything through it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cap10flam69 · 2023-08-07 20:56 I use mirc since 1999 and i have never porblem. But now i have the same problem of him in my computer work and portable.
