Konversation leaking username in debian linux reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DasherPack · 2022-09-14 12:35 When I connect to a server it says: You ([LEAKED USERNAME]@[CLOAK]) have joined the channel #channel However, none of my identites have my username, and the nick which I use to chat (that is set automatically) is nowhere similar to the username I have. There must be a way to avoid leaking the username in konversation. Does anybody know how? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- l0de · 2022-09-14 12:41 as you have now seen, linux is highly unreliable. I suggest you uninstall it and switch to the windows operating system. MiRC by Khaled is a popular IRC client which does not have this issue. Best of luck, Your pal l0dey ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DasherPack · 2022-09-14 13:53 Thank you for the advice! However I'm not changing my operating system over this (a problem clearly caused by the IRC client) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sniker · 2022-09-14 14:08 https://docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/konversation/konversation/identity.html Check the "Advanced" tab, change Ident to whatever you like. If you have an Ident daemon installed, you need to configure it to spoof your ident and reload the service, it's easy, but unless you've installed an ident daemon yourself it's unlikely you have one and changing ident in Konversation should suffice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-09-14 14:13 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DasherPack · 2022-09-14 15:19 I am so ashamed I didn't find this. Thanks a lot! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mccobsta · 2022-09-14 16:10 Linux powers the entire Web and millions of other devices where stability is necessary ---------------------------------------------------------------------- l0de · 2022-09-14 16:37 The only thing linux powers is nausea when in proximity of its users. Please disavow this unamerican, communist softwares! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 7yearlurkernowposter · 2022-09-14 19:44 Well this is a blast from the past. Can we argue about how OS/2 is superior to Windows next? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- l0de · 2022-09-14 21:45 The only thing "warped" about OS/2 is the prurient proclivities of its degenerate adherents. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- p4cha · 2022-09-14 23:54 who are you quoting ---------------------------------------------------------------------- downvoteandyoulose · 2022-09-15 01:50 oidentd will also share your username unless you spoof it. This is by design. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thischildslife · 2022-09-15 03:43 This guy just learned how to evade username bans. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pengo · 2022-09-15 09:09 Why are there so many downvotes on this simple, reasonable question? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- l0de · 2022-09-15 12:04 Just my deeply held beliefs, friend. I am not afraid to withstand the slings and arrows of outrageous plebbitors to speak the truth. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GrainFog · 2022-09-17 00:21 Get a l0de of this guy ---------------------------------------------------------------------- random9917 · 2023-12-24 13:47 You shouldn't be ashamed, the devs should be ashamed this is by default, leaking your windows username, which may be your real name, to IRC. This is a horrible privacy concern, and it shouldn't be like this at all!
