I have the same failed experience with IRC every time, what am I doing wrong? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tristan401 · 2022-08-19 04:06 I reference multiple sources (wikis, guides, etc), do everything they say, and no matter what, I get stuck in an endless loop of reconnecting to Libera servers. This has happened over several OS and clients; just now in ERC on Gentoo, but I've tried before in Ubuntu and Windows with the same result. On one of the previous attempts I set up a nick and password, and it seems to still work (the client says things that look like acceptance). I join a channel, send a message, and it seems fine. But nobody ever responds (in supposedly-vibrant communities), and the connection resets every few minutes, I get a new MOTD, and I eventually leave disappointed. Have I missed a step? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dsotm49 · 2022-08-19 05:55 what does it say in the network tab? (when you're connecting, when you get disconnected, etc) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jsimpson82 · 2022-08-19 14:08 What software are you using to connect? Please add logs of the errors you are seeing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-08-19 16:24 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Greedy_Result_2699 · 2022-08-19 21:15 I thought I was getting a password there and did all of the sign on mess they wanted and regardless of how I tried to sign on I kept getting a msg. that it was wrong to get help as they show up. I gave up and won't even try, I used MIRC and IceChat. lots of luck. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tristan401 · 2022-08-20 05:18 It's every software on every OS, plus the web client. I don't get errors, just an endless loop of reconnect, MOTD, disconnect, reconnect, MOTD, and so on. The web client at least says "disconnected". ERC and the other clients do nothing but print a new MOTD. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tristan401 · 2022-08-20 05:22 I don't have a network tab. I just get disconnected, reconnected, a new MOTD prints, and a few minutes later it happens again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- skizzerz1 · 2022-08-20 07:34 Could be any number of reasons, but knowing what the client says is the reason for you leaving would be a good start (Ping timeout? Remote host closed connection? Something else?) If you’re able, try connecting from a different IP address and see if that works. I can also look into it a bit deeper if you can say what nickname you were attempting to connect with.
