For those of us who still clutch on to IRC, while living a double life in all of the modern annoyances. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BananaSacks · 2022-08-10 12:54 Need to rally some support here - especially if you're a dual IRC/Teams user. Please help bring a small semblance of peace (/me) to those of us stuck having to endure life in a Team's environment. Cast your vote! It's almost a civic duty - Subj> Please add the /me chat command [https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/91bc6e1f-f10c- ed11-a81b- 6045bd864d4f](https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/91bc6 e1f-f10c-ed11-a81b-6045bd864d4f) edit: Just to add, you don't need to comment or post anything to vote. Just a vote, in case you aren't familiar with the Microsoft Feedback Hub. edit2: Yeah, I realize that there is a whole load of things Teams could improve upon. This one is about 'the smaller things in life' ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- _sLLiK · 2022-08-10 14:19 Teams frankly annoys me far more than it doesn't. For a product often touted as a Slack competitor, it seems so far off the mark in terms of feature parity that I find the comparison laughable. I wouldn't even care if it weren't for the fact that my past two employers seemed determined to axe Slack in favor of Teams, causing a great collective gnashing of teeth by those familiar with both products. Especially the engineers/developers in the bunch who are painfully aware of what they're being asked to sacrifice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Techman- · 2022-08-10 14:20 Upvoted. Teams is still a clunky product with performance issues, but if this makes things more bearable, I am all for it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BananaSacks · 2022-08-10 14:30 Hahaha, yeah - this one was all for the smaller things in life :D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BananaSacks · 2022-08-10 14:34 I agree - I do think that Teams has the potential to land itself in a very good position, there will always be differences/I miss this/that, etc. I got lucky and most of the teams in this gig who've adopted Teams never knew better, or worse - save a few of the larger and/or more well-versed software teams. Luckily, I never really had to be *that* harbinger of doom (out with the old, in with the new) - especially in the early days of Teams. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- _sLLiK · 2022-08-10 15:26 Your response implies that Teams is the new hotness and Slack is ready to go the way of Lotus, which is pretty far from my original point, but I digress. Also, Slack has /me ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BananaSacks · 2022-08-10 16:01 Hahaha, sorry, didn't mean to imply that one. Rather, I am relegated to a life of Teams now, I'll forever look over the wall, or jump into old 3rd party rooms on Slack. To be fair, the 'slack has /me' bit, actually cuts deeper to my single largest despair with Teams. A 'Team' is no good for coordinate chatroom-style communications, and a large 'chat' with a bunch of people is a poor bandaid. But, c'est la vie pour moi :/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scriminal · 2022-08-11 04:14 you also have to 1. have a MS account 2. be logged into it. to vote :( ---------------------------------------------------------------------- _sLLiK · 2022-08-12 13:12 Fair and true. Teams is far closer an AD-powered Facetime competitor than anything akin to a product providing feature parity with Slack, so I get riled up every time someone proposes using it as a replacement to save costs (usually because a MS enterprise agreement is in scope). You have my deepest sympathies that the choice has been denied to you. Given the usual intended audience here, it's ironic that Slack is also much closer to IRC in its design goals and versatility than Teams, too.
