Suddenly can't connect to IRC server reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Geosgaeno · 2022-06-27 18:12 Using mIRC btw. This was working flawlessly since yesterday when I got randomly disconnected. Haven't been able to connect since last night. * Connecting to melocoton.chatzona.org (6667) - -fresa.chatzona.org- *** Looking up your hostname... - Caps supported: account-notify away-notify extended-join inspircd.org/poison inspircd.org/standard-replies message-tags multi- prefix setname userhost-in-names - -fresa.chatzona.org- *** Found your hostname (r190-135-74-168.dialup.adsl.anteldata.net.uy) - Caps set: account-notify away-notify extended-join message-tags multi-prefix setname userhost-in-names - Welcome to the ChatZona IRC Network AndressssUY!AndressssUY@r190-135-74-168.dialup.adsl.anteldata.net.uy Your host is fresa.chatzona.org, running version InspIRCd-3 This server was created 01:00:07 May 27 2022 - fresa.chatzona.org InspIRCd-3 BHILRSTWcghikoqrswx ACDEHIKLMNOPRSTXYbcdefghiklmnopqrstvz EHILXYbdefgklov - ACCEPT=30 AWAYLEN=200 BOT=B CALLERID=g CASEMAPPING=rfc1459 CHANLIMIT=#:20 CHANMODES=IXbeg,k,EHLdfl,ACDKMNOPRSTchimnpqrstz CHANNELLEN=64 CHANTYPES=# ELIST=CMNTU ESILENCE=CcdiNnPpTtx EXCEPTS=e are supported by this server EXTBAN=,ACNORSTUacjqrwz HOSTLEN=64 INVEX=I KEYLEN=32 KICKLEN=255 LINELEN=1024 MAXLIST=I:100,X:100,b:100,e:100,g:100 MAXTARGETS=20 MODES=20 NAMELEN=128 NAMESX NETWORK=ChatZona NICKLEN=31 are supported by this server PREFIX=(Yov)!@+ SAFELIST SILENCE=32 STATUSMSG=!@+ TOPICLEN=307 UHNAMES USERIP USERLEN=11 USERMODES=,,s,BHILRSTWcghikoqrwx WHOX are supported by this server - There are 9028 users and 281 invisible on 10 servers 10 operator(s) online 2 unknown connections 817 channels formed I have 199 clients and 4 servers - Current local users: 199 Max: 325 Current global users: 9309 Max: 11821 - fresa.chatzona.org message of the day - . - End of message of the day. - ojd.0h2.ar5v9t.IP is now your displayed host - * AndressssUY sets mode: +xT - Closing link: (AndressssUY@r190-135-74-168.dialup.adsl.anteldata.net.uy) [Ping timeout 101 seg] - * Disconnected Could this be a change from their side? Can they somehow prevent me from using an IRC client? I can join the chat perfectly from their website. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kellyzdude · 2022-06-27 20:24 > [Ping timeout 101 seg] OK, so.. do you get disconnected immediately upon connection, or is there a delay (about 101 seconds worth) before it cuts off? Does it take a long time to complete the initial connection? Assuming that the error is legitimate (and it may not be, I'll circle back in a moment) the IRC server will periodically send your client a "PING" request with a timestamp. Your client is expected to immediately respond with "PONG" and the same timestamp, and from that the server can determine your latency -- or more importantly that you are actually still connected and responsive. If your client doesn't respond in time, the server will disconnect with a "Ping Timeout" error like this. With mIRC, I believe you can create a Debug window that will show all of the lines coming from the server (I'll defer to your Google ability to figure out how in the current release, it has been a while). I have seen odd issues occur if the server sends the PING at the wrong time, the client ignores it, or something else goes wrong and the Ping/Pong doesn't work quite right. Usually it's transient and reconnecting is fine. All of that assumes that the error is legitimate. It is plausible that an unfair administrator has placed a ban with the error "Ping timeout: 101 sec" -- douche move to be sure, but it would manifest with being instant. It wouldn't line up 100% with being able to connect from the Webclient and not mIRC. This IRC network at least appears to have a contact form, so perhaps reach out to ask if anyone else is having problems, or if they have made any changes recently such as upgrading their server? Or, if you can connect with the web client, maybe there is a #help or #support channel that can offer guidance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Geosgaeno · 2022-06-27 20:28 >OK, so.. do you get disconnected immediately upon connection, or is there a delay (about 101 seconds worth) before it cuts off? Does it take a long time to complete the initial connection? There is absolutely no delay. It disconnects right away and it always says 101 seconds no matter how many times I try. If I can access the chat from the website, that means my IP is not banned. Can they somehow prevent people from joining the chat from an IRC client? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kellyzdude · 2022-06-27 20:44 Not easily-- there's no indication that your "VERSION" is being requested so it's not clear how they're differentiating it. The other point is that depending on how a server-side ban has been implemented, it *can* be "user@host" -- i.e. `AndressssUY@...` -- so if you're matching something then it's possible that it matches for the client but not the webchat. Or the webchat is connecting to a different server. I'd still expect a ban to have a more professional reason, and be prefixed with "Banned:" or some other indication beyond a Ping Timeout. I'd still be recommending reaching out to the network and seeing what they might know. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Geosgaeno · 2022-06-27 20:58 Pretty sure I'm not banned since I can access the webchat perfectly using this same username and password. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Geosgaeno · 2022-06-27 21:22 I just deleted my username and password from config and just used a random username with no pass and noticed a difference: Before, it said: my username sets mode: +xT and got immediately disconnected. Trying again, one time it said: my username sets mode: +i and this time it didn't disconnect. I disconnected manually and tried again and got the +xT mode again and got promptly disconnected with the Ping Timeout (101 ms) error again. Any clues? Am I being flagged for using an IRC client? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AnnulledMessiah · 2022-06-28 03:57 +x is the mode that inspircd sets when your cloak gets activated, it isn't related to any clients. Do you get disconnected when you log in with your username and password on the web chat? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Geosgaeno · 2022-06-28 06:06 No, not at all. I think it's the server acting up tho. I'll probably wait a couple of days and see how it goes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SadieCat69 · 2022-06-28 06:07 >Ping timeout 101 seg] That's not an InspIRCd ping timeout message as that would be formatted as "Ping timeout: 101 seconds". That server force-joins you to a channel called #check and then force- parts you after so it might have some custom stuff going on and is force-quitting you. Maybe email the admins and see if you've been mistakenly hit by something? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Geosgaeno · 2022-06-28 06:42 Thanks. Will do that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IBNash · 2022-07-07 11:33 Email the server admin about this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Geosgaeno · 2022-07-07 12:21 Thanks. It actually fixed itself. It was probably something on their end
