Is it possible to download files from Polaris IRC client? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Atomic_bananaS · 2022-06-25 13:56 Hi! I tried to download some files from an IRC chat but I do not at any dialog about the download and after 180 seconds the transfer gets aborted. I tried searching on internet the possible problem / solution and found nothing. OS: Pop!\_OS 22.04 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nawcom · 2022-06-25 15:43 There's no file transfer support in Polari (I assume you meant Polari and not Polaris the mIRC mod). If there was then there'd be a setting for where to save files, DCC ports you'll use to establish connections, etc. HexChat supports file transfers if you're looking for a *nix GUI IRC client that supports it. Configuration for DCC and file transfers is in Settings->Preferences->Network->Network setup as well as Settings->Preferences->Network->File transfers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KindOne · 2022-06-26 01:36 Polari is a **HORRIBLE** **HORRIBLE** **HORRIBLE** IRC client. You would be better off using HexChat for a GUI client. If you want a command line client you can try irssi or weechat. As to why it is a horrible client, this is my testing from February 2022: Cannot see mode changes in channel while you are in the channel. This includes bans/quiets/op/voice/whatever. Does not show any numerics or messages. This includes 'user is +R', 'user is +g', you are banned/quieted/invite only channel, registered users only, and everything else. This makes it very difficult to figure out things. Unidentified user tries to join a cmode +r channel, the channel window is created but the user is not actually in the channel. User will think they are actually in the channel. Client "eats" the first # from channel names in the channel sidebar if the channel has two or more. Cannot see /msg @#channel test while op. /mode is a unknown command /quote is an unknown command, so you are effectively limited to using whatever is built into the IRC client. /whois output is extremely lacking. /whois memoserv only shows User: Memo Services - Last activity: Unavailable I used version 3.38 from https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/polari for this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Atomic_bananaS · 2022-06-28 15:06 I tried it because it looked nicely with Gnome, but apparently it is a bad idea; thanks for the response, i will give a try to HexChat.
