Any good software entrepreneurship channels? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- omicronorcimo · 2022-03-27 11:44 I am looking at doing some surveying based on an MVP I have been working on. I really want a forum that isn't full of "hustlers" or technology illiterates, so that I can discuss surveying techniques, high quality business resources, marketing, scaling etc. Can anyone suggest an active irc channel? If not then are there any good obscurer but active web forums anyone can recommend? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- codetrotter · 2022-03-27 20:45 > If not then are there any good obscurer but active web forums anyone can recommend? Closest thing I know is Hacker News. Although the discussions about entrepreneurship itself can be few and far between at times. https://news.ycombinator.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- omicronorcimo · 2022-03-28 09:40 All of the posts on HN seem to be links to existing resources. I don't know how they would respond to open ended discussion, especially when I am new and have nothing all that valuable to say right now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jeffrecode · 2022-03-30 03:34 >especially when I am new and have nothing all that valuable to say right now I'm very sympathetic to this hesitation. But I'd say go for it, just post. Every good N-way conversation on the Internet has this problem, which is a problem with humans, not the Internet. Being silent out of caution is what careful/thoughtful/reflective/respectful people do. Meanwhile, the other kinds of people dominate (ruin?) most of the convs. I just today started using IRC again, and actually chatting instead of just cautiously/respectfully listening. Within an hour someone said something like "Does anyone else get anxiety about IRC?" and explained that s/he had been harshly slapped down on technical support channels now and then, etc. But then the good people started talking and made it clear (to me) that, well, they exist, at least. Go for it, in forums if not life in general. Thick skin and optimism/positivity ... essential entrepreneurial skills (not traits). \[--fellow entrepreneur\] P.S. From an economics point of view, you don't decide the value (price) of what you have to say; the market does. Go to market. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- omicronorcimo · 2022-03-30 17:12 Thanks, that gave me some confidence to try (: I guess the worst that can happen is either verbal abuse or I get ignored. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jeffrecode · 2022-03-30 17:58 ... and the abuse, now or whenever it comes, will be bad. But you'll get stronger for it. You build muscles by lifting, not by posing. So I'm told.
