Issues with setting up an IRC server reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JSV007 · 2022-03-07 15:58 Hi, I have been trying to make an IRC server for a while and am having difficulties. I am now following this guide for ergo : [https://landchad.net/irc](https://landchad.net/irc) Upon trying to run the script I get this error :  `./ergo run` `2022-03-07T15:57:12.333Z : info : server : ergo-2.7.0 starting` `2022-03-07T15:57:12.333Z : info : server : Using config file : ircd.yaml` `2022-03-07T15:57:12.333Z : info : server : Using datastore : ircd.db` `2022-03-07T15:57:12.333Z : info : server : Proxied IPs will be accepted from : localhost` `2022-03-07T15:57:12.334Z : error : server : couldn't listen on :` [`192.168.0.1:6697`](https://192.168.0.1:6697) `: listen tcp` [`192.168.0.1:6697`](https://192.168.0.1:6697)`: bind: cannot assign requested address` `2022-03-07T15:57:12.334Z : error : server : couldn't listen on : [::1]:6697 : listen tcp [::1]:6697: bind: cannot assign requested address` `2022-03-07T15:57:12.334Z : info : listeners : now listening on :6697, tls=true, proxy=false, tor=false, websocket=false.` `2022-03-07T15:57:12.334Z : error : server : Could not load server: listen tcp [::1]:6697: bind: cannot assign requested address` Is there maybe an easier way of setting up a server ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KindOne · 2022-03-08 02:34 You should ask the devs. https://ergo.chat/about-network ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lazy-xo · 2022-05-19 23:49 Looks like you’re issue is ipv4/ ipv6 - try binding to localhost / link local not your private side IP address. Or something like "*" for all IPv4 interfaces and / or "::" for all ipv6 interfaces.
