i am trying to host my own IRC server with SSL and i have the
certificates but it just doesn't work when i try and use SSL. standard
no SSL works fine

the server i am using is ircd-hybrid

Define “doesn’t work.” What happens when you try?

I get an SSL error asking if it's enabled on the server and port which
it is

You need to change the port used by your client. Usually, it's 6667
for non-SSL and 6697 for SSL

doesn't work as i am not doing SSL on that port i am doing it on 6668

that is the error there when trying to do SSL

ok turns out it has to be that port you can't just force a different
port

making it work on 6697 fixes it
