Where is the git repo to clone remotes client from irc.com? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tallship · 2022-02-22 15:27 Hi, I noticed a potentially nice node based client I would like to try out, called **remotes**, except that it is from irc.com and the version they provide access through looks like it will only work with freenode. That's not bad if you want to only connect to freenode I guess, but what about connecting to Libera and OFTC, and other's, including your own ircd? It's located here: **remotes.irc.com/static/client.html** (I've removed the active link, so just the host and directory tree to the page is all I've left so as not to upset any modbots that might not like actual links). It looks like Kiwi to a great extent, or something similar, and has plugin for code practice for Javascript, maybe others too? The website sucks as far as information goes, but looks good - that's usually not a good sign. I'd be most interested in anything similar too. I currently use a few plugins for weechat, and when I'm on my phone weechat-android relay works okay too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KindOne · 2022-02-22 16:56 Why not just ask them directly? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- anths · 2022-02-22 17:30 I asked Freenode this shortly after their takeover, and got no answer and only derision for asking. I’m told it’s light modifications of an existing online client, although I forget which I was told at the time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tallship · 2022-03-04 18:07 That place is a veritable ghost town. It's literally almost completely vacant. It wasn't part of the sale of privateinternetaccess (PIA) to Kape, and The last bit of activity seemed to be a **good news!** article posted, as well as the topic in the DAO Chan stating, "feenode now belongs to you!". My projects, chans, and Nick registrations are invalid, Matrix bridges have long since broken, and chanserv/nickserv services are spotty at best, but mostly broken and non responsive too. Further, there's not even any mention of what token or blockchain the DAO uses, so claiming one's **ownership** (based on registered channels, nick, at both feenode AND Libera) wasn't possible over a period of a couple of weeks. I mean... I thought MySpace vaporized quickly lolz. Hehehe... Pimp My freenode! I guess Crown Prince Andrew Lee, perhaps attempting a last ditch (pundit) effort to save face, just haphazardly launched the DAO, washed his hands, and ditched it. I couldn't really find any other mentions of him either, so I'm thinking he just left the whole benevolent custodial championship of FOSS behind him along with all that egg on his face? Enquiring minds want to know 🤡 ⛵ . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tallship · 2022-03-04 18:29 Yah I'm sure that went a long way towards establishing trust with you and thousands off others who **dared** to ask such FOSSie questions. Well, I'm quite happy with Libera (staff are accessible too) and was already on OFTC, but considering this tendency for folks to adopt Matrix as either a primary or secondary live support venue, I also opted to deploy an Ergo Chat ircd on my own infra after a couple of decades since having run bahamet at DALnet... Talk about Easy Peasy! Services, bouncer, everything up and running in a few minutes, not counting Matrix bridges. Well, it's sad about freenode, but we all move on. ⛵ .
