Lunix hexchat - how to fileshare to usb?

Is it possible? How do I go about this? Sorry for the noob question,
I'm super new.

When I go to select the usb in download path it won't let me.

(Through xdcc, to clarify)

maybe permissions problem? can you actually create files/folders on
that USB? is there any error?

Yes, I can. It does seem there's something weird going on with the
permissions, for example I can only select my download folder(and it
doesn't even show any of the folders inside of the downloads folder
nor most of the files) or the the hexchat folder, and it seems to only
successfully download to the hexchat folder.

Oh and no, no errors.

how did you install hexchat? repository? flatpak? snap?

It came with the os, Linux Mint 19.

well, try to run hexchat from the terminal, and change the download
folder, see if any error shows up
