Is HexChat a good option reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LifeAffect6762 · 2022-01-03 11:31 Hi, it's been a minute since I last used IRC. Did a little research for n IRC client that is FOSS on both Windows and Linux and HexChat seemed a good choice. Ime not asking what the best FOSS IRC client is as ime sure it's fairly objective. Ime simply asking is HexChat a worthwile contender. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mendacity531 · 2022-01-03 12:20 I use HexChat in Linux, it is a decent client. Though in terms of scripting its capabilities are not as good as mIRC is, unless you are competent in perl, python or lua. For my needs it works well enough. Irssi and weechat are popular terminal-based options in the Linux world and I believe there may be a Windows-based client for weechat, don't hold me to that though, its been years since I've used a Windows-based computer. As a side note, mIRC does run fine under Wine in Linux, though sound can be an issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- karamanistaken · 2022-01-03 13:45 yes, better than xchat imho ---------------------------------------------------------------------- skizzerz1 · 2022-01-03 14:34 HexChat is good. The UI is dated and it has a handful of annoying issues, but that also describes pretty much every other IRC client out there as well. Best thing to do is give it a try to see if you like it. If you don’t, try something else :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mccobsta · 2022-01-03 21:44 It's soild client for chatting ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LifeAffect6762 · 2022-01-03 22:51 > unless you are competent in perl, python or lua Interesting. What would you prefer, this got me curious. Ime currently learning python and it seems fairly straightforward in the scheme of things. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mendacity531 · 2022-01-04 11:21 I just simple aliases, my programming skills suck. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LifeAffect6762 · 2022-01-04 11:58 If you feel keen Python is one of the easiest ones to learn. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kn0wmaad · 2022-01-06 23:51 As someone who was asking the same question I decided to give it a go today and it seems really simple and fun. Have you given it a shot yet? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LifeAffect6762 · 2022-01-07 18:57 Yes, +1 from me. No issues yet.
