[ZNC] Reload all windows and past messages when connecting to ZNC with IRSSI reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- involut · 2021-12-29 21:03 Hi, I am using irssi to connect to my ZNC instance that is working. I have setup a network, server and a channel that ZNC connects to. Now while on IRC, messages in the channel are posted, and even private windows with messages are happening. Now, on my Mac, I quit my irssi client in the terminal. Next day when I start irssi again, only the autojoin channel is being opened again without any backlog or messages what happened in the meantime. In addition, the private message windows in irssi are not available anymore, as well as the messages that have been sent in the past. How can I see all messages that have been sent while I was gone? Thank you in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- skizzerz1 · 2021-12-30 01:07 Where is your ZNC running? What is your scrollback buffer configured for in ZNC? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- involut · 2021-12-30 13:56 ZNC (1.8.2) is running on a web server where I have installed it manually. The scrollback buffer - I am not sure which parameter you mean. However, the Maximum Buffer Size is set to 500. The channel's buffer size on the network is set to 100 with the flag Auto Clear Chan Buffer set to enabled. More on the topic: I have noticed that if I keep my Mac's terminal window open, close the Mac's screen, it sleep's for a while, wake up my Mac again and take at the look at the terminal window where irssi is running, that the buffer playback works. However, if I quit the irssi process and reconnect to ZNC it doesn't seem to playback what I have missed. Does that make sense? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- skizzerz1 · 2021-12-30 17:02 Yeah, I'm thinking that ZNC is somehow disconnecting from the IRC server, since that would lead to the symptoms you describe. We can verify this by checking your /whois connect time. Next time this happens, /whois yourself on the server and look for the timestamp of when you connected. For example, mine looks like `* [moonmoon] idle 00:19:06, signon: Fri Dec 10 15:03:39` which means my ZNC has been connected for ~20 days. If the connect time is recent, it means ZNC is disconnecting from the IRC server for some reason, and we can then look into why that's happening. If it's not recent, it means the buffers are being cleared when they shouldn't be, and we can then look into why that's happening. However given what you're saying about only having autojoin channels, my guess is a full disconnection. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- involut · 2022-01-02 19:18 That is a great approach. I did an whois on my nick and noticed that my signon dates a couple of days back: `idle : 3 days 22 hours 41 mins 9 secs [signon: Wed Dec 29 20:55:00 2021]` I think this makes sense as the ZNC instance has just recently been installed. So I will keep an eye on this. Thank you!
