I get disconnected with a 10053 error. 10053 is a winsock error and I have looked and looked for a fix. The idea of finding a tech at the provider we use is slim to none. I have a patch fix but it doesn't always work. I am using MIRC but the problem has happened using Icechat and Kvirc. I have asked Khaled Mardam-Bey and others and just get the scratch the butt/rub the nose about a fix. Here’s the most likely ones: * Your computer went to sleep * You have a local AV/firewall program that hates IRC or particular things sent over it * You are using a proxy (either for your internet in general or IRC specifically) and it is sending you malformed packets * Configuration oddities (can’t get any more specific than that, sorry) Without more details about when you notice this happening (is it consistent? Is there a pattern of other things happening on the computer when it happens? Is it just one network or does it happen in general? Does it happen to non-IRC things? etc), your specific setup, and a packet capture it’d be impossible to diagnose this further. It has been suggested going into registry and making some changes that people have suggested but I don't feel like that is something I want to do. No it only happens with IRC. I have a 2 year old H-P computer and win-11 on it. The problem was even happening with win-8. Is your connection wired or wireless? I have serious doubts that I could ever find a tech with metronet just like with mediacom before that could help with the settings. I have tried several things that people have posted including getting into the Registry and I really didn't feel comfortable doing that. I will just live with it for the time being. I may try as suggested the IRC cloud but a friend has suggested something else. On the bright side since we have go to metronet I have only had it happen just a very few times. There was no way in hell of getting someone at Mediacom.
