The San Antonio IRC community had a few gatherings, went out to movies and brunches and such. Great group of people. My best friend used IRC as his early version of Grindr which led to some...*interesting* times. I miss the old days when local groups were active. Now I primarily use IRC for getting help with obscure FOSS stuff and kicking around tech questions I can't find answers to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- badpie99 · 2021-12-19 15:12 TalkCity\StarChat\DalNET: #DarkCastle checking in ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Astronaut-Bread · 2021-12-19 15:21 The "We're old" thread :) What channels were all you DALnet, EFnet, & Quakenet folks on? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aftli · 2021-12-19 16:06 Mostly Undernet mid-late 90s. Also some private ircd. Now I've quit everything. I'm sad irc is \*almost\* dead. Even the irc v3 standards can't compete with recent social networks (I don't talk about Facebook, I hate Facebook). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GeekyChick74 · 2021-12-20 15:49 /me waves from Canada. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- deepend_tilde · 2021-12-20 16:23 IRC is still good at what it was always good at. It does add some niceties though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- P_Bear06 · 2021-12-20 20:54 I had discord in mind. The internet wasn't supposed to be this way. Even in the work environment you see everything defaulting to bloated, bundled corporate offerings like Teams and Yammer when a simple irc server would suffice. Most people don't even visit web pages now, let alone build their own, instead remaining entirely inside their social media platforms, feeding the data mining machine. I doubt the average user would be capable of connecting to an irc server these days. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-12-22 14:24 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProfessorFroth · 2021-12-22 14:30 I might of wrote DMsetup.exe as a prank was I was 16. I learned that didn’t serve me after getting in trouble and having a brief stay in a juvenile facility.
