Hexchat - Force Background color for others? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Titus-Groen · 2021-12-04 00:00 I just started using Hexchat, which has been nice, but some users have a white background with light blue text that makes reading their messages all but impossible. I want to be able to stop them from changing the color of their text background but the only option I've found so far is to color strip the entire chat, which I don't want to do. My google-fu has failed me so far, any suggestions? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- megahambone · 2021-12-04 00:15 The background color of someone else's IRC client has no bearing on the color of the text you're seeing, unless they're specifically setting a text color with their messages, which is kind of a dick move on their part to begin with. You can't control someone's else's IRC client settings, nor should you. Either disable colors in your channel or live with it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nubatpython · 2021-12-04 02:25 Are they purposefully setting the white background, or are they just sending as light blue text? A lot of irc clients are terminal based, and most terminals and terminal emulators have a black background. Either way, you can probably write a Hexchat plugin to strip colors from specific users. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Titus-Groen · 2021-12-04 12:40 My background is also black but their text shows up as light blue *and* white background. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Titus-Groen · 2021-12-04 12:44 I’m not trying to edit their client, I’m trying to make it so that *my client* doesn’t show background text changes. Given that I can color strip all messages in my client, I figured there was something I was missing to just turn off background color changes displaying in my client as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nubatpython · 2021-12-05 08:29 That seems like they or their client is purposefully setting it. You'll probably have to write a custom plugin to strip out colors from those users if you want to keep colors enabled for everyone else. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Titus-Groen · 2021-12-14 12:44 Unfortunately, I don't have a clue where to start with that but thank you for giving me a direction to look into!
