Windows 11 IRC clients? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- T_Six · 2021-11-10 17:01 Been a HexChat user for a while but the other day I found out I can't install it no more with the error: "shellexecuteex failed code 8235 a referral was returned from the server". I used the Windows 7 64bit install on my Windows 10 at the time, for the extra customization options. So the error makes sense. I know HexChat has a version in the MS store, might go for that but wondering if there's any Windows 11 users with other good IRC client recommendations? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- james_hamilton1234 · 2021-11-10 17:13 I believe you can install the Linux Subsystem on Windows 11 which means that you may be able to use any terminal based IRC clients ---------------------------------------------------------------------- T_Six · 2021-11-10 17:33 Good shout, forgot about that option! I also host my own IRC on an Ubuntu server so might even use something like irssi or weechat on there ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jcmolero71 · 2021-11-10 18:11 Pidgin for the win ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iTsBlazee · 2021-11-10 18:39 Mirc no good? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- k16057 · 2021-11-10 18:44 I like Konversation. It came with KDE and I had to move to Windows: they have support for it :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- T_Six · 2021-11-10 19:26 Didn't know about that one yet, thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- T_Six · 2021-11-10 19:27 Seems good, how are the customization options on that? Dark mode is kind of a must for me at this point. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- silverfang789 · 2021-11-10 20:04 Hexchat is available in the app store. Should work with 11. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gostgoose · 2021-11-10 21:43 mIRC has a lot of options. You can change the colors from View->Colors. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- P4k3 · 2021-11-10 22:05 Thelounge is the shizzle ---------------------------------------------------------------------- T_Six · 2021-11-10 22:09 Cool, I'll check it out then ---------------------------------------------------------------------- T_Six · 2021-11-10 22:12 A self hosted IRC web client? Sounds awesome. I currently have a KiwiIRC iFrame embedded on a website of mine to make my chat available for the less tech savvy friends. I'm gonna look into TheLounge for that job, as it looks a lot better and offers more customization. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- P4k3 · 2021-11-10 22:14 Copy paste with images creates a url to the image. Add to homescreen on Android makes it indistinguishable from aby other apps on the phone. Push notifications are nativly supported. Its an awesome client imo👍 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- T_Six · 2021-11-10 22:25 Yeah sounds dope. I imagine that against payment it also lets you put your own site name and logo in there so it feels like your own platform? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- P4k3 · 2021-11-10 22:33 Unsure actually.. there are no paid features its all free. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- T_Six · 2021-11-10 22:38 Even better. I'll check it out soon. Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing2 · 2021-11-10 23:52 I've used HexChat just fine on Windows 11. The installer is for all Windows versions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- T_Six · 2021-11-10 23:54 Oh really, the windows 7 64bit version? I already mentioned I was aware of the MS store version working, but that one is so limited in customization. If you have the Windows 7 64bit version working on windows 11 then I'd love to hear how you did that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing2 · 2021-11-11 00:59 The installer worked fine a few weeks ago, windows might have broke it. The store version is identical, minus python/perl (lua scripts work). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- y2kbadbug · 2021-11-11 05:57 Quassel. Cross platform and can work like a bnc with a core ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OMGItsCheezWTF · 2021-11-11 18:14 I run weechat on my server and use the glowing bear web client for it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- stdm3 · 2021-11-14 03:36 Do this, irssi is the only viable irc client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- phendrome · 2021-11-15 04:24 NoNameScript were the days though let’s be honest ヽ( `д´*)ノ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RScholar · 2021-11-19 08:22 Both of my preferred clients, [AdiIRC](https://adiirc.com/) and [KVIrc](https://www.kvirc.net/) are rockin' and rollin' on Windows 11, I've been running the Dev builds since July and the bugs have been minor and infrequent and the devs have been quick to adapt. If you go with KVIrc, just make sure you get the [nightly build](https://nightly.kvirc.net/win-x86_64/), there hasn't been a new release yet since the Windows 11 launch. And if you're an UnderNET user, the [CService plugin](https://github.com/krystinalynn/AdiIRC- Plugins) for AdiIRC is truly a must-have, completely automating SASL login with the two-factor TOTP value. Happy chatting! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iTsBlazee · 2021-11-20 21:16 Memory lane!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ZilockeTheandil · 2021-12-02 11:13 This sounds great, but is there a way to run it on Windows? I've used Linux in the past, but it's been a while, unfortunately. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-12-02 11:36 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- P4k3 · 2021-12-02 11:36 Running it in docker under windows should work. But I imagine it would be harder to setup that way so not sure I would recommend over just putting it on a rpi. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ZilockeTheandil · 2021-12-02 11:50 Might try the RPi solution, that would be easier to keep running 24/7 anyway. I may even have one lying around (or be able to get one from a friend) that I can use for it. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- avisrara · 2022-02-12 06:35 The sideloaded client from the Hexchat website, (not MS Store) client is FREE, and works perfectly as well. It is also more customizable.
