Host Own Server on Android (Termux) reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GL513 · 2021-10-17 23:49 I am running termux, using ubuntu proof, on my phone. How can I host my own IRC through my phone? I want to make my own server on my phone, that is my only goal. I am trying to use InspIRCd, but I'm not sure how I would set up the configuration file. I attempted to use my Github, but it doesn't work anyway because I'm not sure how to properly set the conf file. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PrincipallyMaoism · 2021-10-18 01:39 Why would you want to run it through a phone? What kind of networking capabilities are you expecting to support? Generally you want something with a dedicated or semi-dedicated connection, something which can handle a decent throughput volume. This generally means an ethernet link, or a VPS which can emulate that connection to the host server via KVM. Everytime your phone changes networks, every user of your server will get involuntarily netsplit. This does not bode well for a server. Alternatively, you might consider some single-board computer? There's a lot of questions to be considered here... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nawcom · 2021-10-18 07:06 Don't. Use a realistic computer for running a network service. Not some phone. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 10leej · 2021-10-18 16:37 I imagine OP wants to do this as a proof of concept. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mccobsta · 2021-10-18 17:09 Some one ran a jellyfin server on their phone ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GL513 · 2021-10-18 20:43 Yeah pretty much. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GL513 · 2021-10-18 20:44 Like 10Leej said, for proof of concept, but also because there is a thing called AndroidX86, and can be run on full PCs. I am hoping to set up InspIRCd on my computer, which of course will run a bouncer/proxy ---------------------------------------------------------------------- streets814 · 2021-10-18 22:01 Servers ultimate claims it can run an irc server on Android. Never tried it but maybe it leads you in the right direction? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.icecoldapps.serversu ltimate ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-10-26 17:34 [deleted]
