I'm sorry im a newbie, just want to use irc on my old blackberry handheld, i do know that i have to use an http proxy server for security, but what am i supposed to write in that box? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-07-05 20:32 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProgVal · 2021-07-05 21:53 You don't *need* an HTTP proxy for security, clicking links on IRC is not any more dangerous than clicking links on Reddit or Twitter. And we can't tell you what to fill in the box, because you need to pick a proxy *somehow*, the configuration depends on which one you pick. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkhinzir · 2021-07-06 00:26 I'm sorry I am a complete noob, from where do i pick one? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pandakekok9 · 2021-07-06 03:46 If you're a complete noob, then you most likely don't need an http proxy in the first place (how tf does that even work anyway, http and irc are different protocols). Just untick that checkbox and use irc as normal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkhinzir · 2021-07-06 03:53 I understand, doesn't it mean that anyone will be able to look up my ip? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pandakekok9 · 2021-07-06 04:12 Why are you concerned about anyone being able to lookup your IP? Is it a static IP which accurately corresponds to your exact location? I'm pretty sure almost everyone uses dynamic IPs. Those who use static IPs have to do so because they are operating a server or something. Someone knowing your IP address doesn't really do much nowadays. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkhinzir · 2021-07-06 04:20 Thank you, much appreciated, i guess i Don't have to worry anymore
