How to shift to OFTC from Polari ? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rocksnotstars · 2021-06-15 10:00 I was using Polari to connect to my org. They decided to shift to OFTC . On the [website of OFTC](https://www.oftc.net/) it says , >*You can reach the OFTC IRC network by using a traditional* [*IRC Cli ent*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_Relay_Chat_ clients) *of choice* **I am unable to figure out how to shift to OFTC ?** Also, (noob alert!) what exactly is OFTC ? Is it an IRC ? How is it different from other IRC's (Polari or Pidigin) Please help me out :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MachaHack · 2021-06-15 11:13 There's two parts to IRC: 1. The network, which is the group of servers which the users are connect to 2. The client, which is the program you use to connect. Pidgin, Polari (and more popular examples like Hexchat) are all clients. OFTC (along with Freenode, which I guess your org is moving from) are networks. When you first connected to IRC, you configured a server or selected from the list built in to your client. I guess you've been connected to that server ever since. This appears to be the docs for adding a new server for Polari: https://help.gnome.org/users/polari/stable/network-connect.html.en If you take the values from the OFTC website and put them into the connect screen on Polari (or if there's a built in list, select OFTC from that list), that will get you connected to OFTC. If you don't use other channels on your old network, you can then remove the old network afterwards, but I don't use Polari and they don't have an online manual, so can't give you guidance there.
