Downloading files from certain servers through Hexchat doesn't work, but it's fine in Mirc? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- i_literally_died · 2021-05-15 07:32 Without naming servers unless I have to, there are some servers I can do XDCC gets completely fine in Hexchat. There are also servers (or at least one server) that just gets stuck at 'connect' when I try (from every bot, and every file I've tried). These transfers work fine in the vanilla Mirc client. I can't see any settings different between the two. What is causing this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LongneckKiller · 2021-05-15 10:24 ports? passive mode? one server (Without naming servers unless I have to) i frequent has bots that YOU MUST have passive mode enabled to download, the bots name generally look like "ASDF|CN|P|124" notice the "P" in the bot name. passive mode = port forward your router this is only my guess. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- i_literally_died · 2021-05-15 11:45 Ya the bots do have P in the name, but why would Hexchat require a router change where Mirc doesn't? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- i_literally_died · 2021-05-15 12:07 I just checked in Mirc and Passive Mode is Off by default but I can still receive files. In Hexchat /passive doesn't even show my status or give me an option to change it. Also tried a bunch of bots without the P, and they don't work on that server either. Struggling to think which Hexchat setting could be doing this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kshrc · 2021-05-15 12:56 irc.bsdunix.us ports 6667 e 6697 ssl ---------------------------------------------------------------------- i_literally_died · 2021-05-15 13:19 wat ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DasBrain · 2021-05-15 22:46 Are you maybe connecting over SSL (or TLS, as it is now commonly called) with hexchat? And plaintext when using mIRC? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- i_literally_died · 2021-05-16 08:01 I can't see any global setting in Hexchat (and indeed, other servers work okay there, so it has to be CHANNEL or even range of BOTS specific). The server itself spits out the below on connect (emphasis mine): > * Capabilities supported: unrealircd.org/link-security=2 unrealircd.org/plaintext-policy=user=allow,oper=deny,server=deny extended-join chghost cap-notify userhost-in-names multi-prefix away- notify **sasl=EXTERNAL,PLAIN tls** account-notify message-tags batch account-tag server-time echo-message labeled-response > * Capabilities requested: extended-join chghost cap-notify userhost- in-names multi-prefix away-notify account-notify server-time > * Capabilities acknowledged: extended-join chghost cap-notify userhost-in-names multi-prefix away-notify account-notify server-time And my settings for this server are completely default: [Image](https://imgur.com/H7Fkun6) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- i_literally_died · 2021-05-16 10:41 So I just tried changing loads of settings around but I realised I'd never tried downloading from a different channel/set of bots on this server. Just tried that and I can download fine, so this is specific to this channel, or this channel's bot setup. I can't believe they're all slow enough that they can sit there forever at connecting. The send request comes through almost immediately, and this is a fairly well known transer channel. Feasible that it's to do with passive bots, but why would they work in Mirc and not Hexchat with the same router settings? Upnp is activated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gothBoots · 2022-07-15 14:31 Regarding the passive download requirement on Linux or Mac, what is the best client to use that supports passive download? Weechat unfortunately doesn't. It's such a good client otherwise. I am thinking of using Hexchat. Any suggestions? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- i_literally_died · 2022-07-15 17:11 I use Hexchat with some settings changes internally plus on my router ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-02-07 12:01 [removed]
