Where can I find a good tutorial? I joined a program that uses IRC to communicate, but I was born after IRC fell out. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- asaltandbuttering · 2021-04-08 00:55 What do you need help with? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FixBayonetsLads · 2021-04-08 00:56 I have a learning disorder, I have trouble figuring advanced programs on my own. Stuff with lots of numbers(like ports and stuff) are especially intimidating. The interface is just...intimidating. I just need a good tutorial I can click through. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- asaltandbuttering · 2021-04-08 01:00 Wikipedia has some info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:IRC/Tutorial Here's a more detailed tutorial using Hexchat (a good client available on all OSes): https://fedoramagazine.org/beginners-guide-irc/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FixBayonetsLads · 2021-04-08 01:01 Thanks. I bought a client to use but I can’t remember which one it is at the moment ---------------------------------------------------------------------- asaltandbuttering · 2021-04-08 01:02 Probably mIRC? It is paid, iirc, and is(was?) the most popular client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- stillfun · 2021-04-08 07:36 If you are connecting to freenode, you can use their [webchat](https://webchat.freenode.net/) . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teknic111 · 2021-04-08 12:19 I wasn't aware IRC fell out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FixBayonetsLads · 2021-04-08 12:22 Well, I mean, it wasn’t the main thing by the time I was old enough to use the internet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sunkzero · 2021-04-08 13:33 > Hexchat (a good client available on all OSes) I don't think it's available on OSX (anymore) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lunanailei · 2021-04-09 13:32 You can check quassel [https://quassel-irc.org](https://quassel- irc.org/downloads) it's easy to use and you can look up some tutorials on yt how to set it up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- End_of-Days · 2021-04-18 17:52 r/IRBc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tallship · 2021-04-23 08:32 Everything you ever wanted to know, and then some, right here: [http://books.gigatux.nl/mirror/irchacks/059600687X/toc.html](http://b ooks.gigatux.nl/mirror/irchacks/059600687X/toc.html) Nothing pertinent has changed in the protocol since this book was published, and for more current information on any clients, etc., you can visit the sites/repos for those projects. I personally recommend Wechat - you can run it anywhere and connect it to anywhere, as well as connect to it from anywhere, but TheLounge is really good stuff too. Regardless, you can pick and choose from material in the various chapters that you're interested in getting up to speed with quickly, so keep it handy, and of course, you can also read the book cover to cover if you like, but there's certainly many topics you won't care much about, like writing bots.... at least in the beginning ;) I hope that helps :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-05-13 15:53 [removed]
