Help. Noob. IRCCloud for android reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- amuzeddouche · 2021-03-29 03:03 Hi. So this will be my first IRC experience and I simply can't find any info online AT ALL that gives a specific example of how the Server Settings page is supposed to be filled out. Like half the items on the page are still missing something and it clearly needs to be input with something because it will NOT allow me to click "done". Also, given that I'm a noob, how is somebody supposed to know how to translate a website address into a channel address??? Like I've seen different examples from different tutorials and some end in .com and some in .org and it doesn't seem like they necessarily line up with website address, so how am I supposed to find out how to do this? I just want to start chatting so I can ask people on IRC about all the fine tuning but I can't even seem to get started and its frustrating the crap out of me. Ive been at it for 3 days now. Somebody please help me, and please don't comment if you aren't going to help with my specific issue and just say that it isn't for me or try to get me to change what I'm using. I want to use THIS app, and I know I'm close to getting it done, so I'm not giving up. Thanks in advance, and a picture of an actually usable example will help greatly. Bye for now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- htepO · 2021-03-29 05:02 Could you edit your post with screenshots or more details about what exactly you're having trouble with? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- amuzeddouche · 2021-03-29 06:24 So I have no idea how to add a picture to a text post on reddit. I didn't even think that was an option and can't find instructions online about it without posting the images to some website and putting the link, which I don't wanna do. Here are the spots left blank after I choose a network: Channels to join:_____________ Nickserv password:__________ Server password:____________ Commands to run on connect:______________ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- htepO · 2021-03-29 07:18 - Channels to join: If you want IRCCloud to automatically join channels when it connects to the IRC server/network, you'd put those here, separated by commas. For example: ```#chatzone,#IRChelp,#beginners``` If, say, #IRChelp requires a the password "pleaseletmein" to join, you'd put the password after the channel name, separated by a space. For example: ```#chatzone,#IRChelp pleaseletmein,#beginners``` - NickServ password: You'd use this if your nickname is registered on the server/network you're using. Just put the password in this field. - Server password: Some servers may require a password to even connect. If this is the case, the server password goes here. - Commands to run on connect: If you want to run some commands after a connection to the server/network has been established, those go here, with each command on a new line. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- amuzeddouche · 2021-03-29 07:46 Okay, so I figured that would be the case with everything you have pointed out, except for that password part of the channels area so thank you for the clarification on that, but I guess what I'm asking now is how am I supposed to know what the names of the channels are? Is it the same for every network and there is just a directory im not aware of? Like is #chatzone the main chat room for all servers? And what kind of commands could I put in? Is there a directory for that as well? I'm a little lost here, as you can clearly see. Do people usually have a background of knowledge in a specific area before they use irc or does everybody just figure it out as they go along? Cuz I'm normally a quick learner, but it seems like I'm missing something here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- amuzeddouche · 2021-03-29 07:48 Sorry, I meant "for all networks" when it comes to my question about #chatzone ---------------------------------------------------------------------- amuzeddouche · 2021-03-29 08:09 Ah. Never mind. I figured it out. It all makes sense now. Thank you for putting up with my ignorance
