Anyone an old-school user of Xircon? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lagerea · 2021-03-09 07:15 So I used to use Xircon w/Kano back in the early 2000s and I suppose on a nostalgic kick I did some digging and found it again. I wasn't able to find the last version but I did manage to find the 1.4b, the kano script installer crashes but fortunately, it seems to copy most of the files. I was wondering if either someone can locate the last version of xircon or was familiar enough with TCL programs that could help me fine-tune this puppy? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- theredkrawler · 2021-03-09 12:17 I loved Xircon with Kano. It was the ultimate Windows IRC client back in the day. Last time I used it I ended up putting it on a Windows XP VirtualBox image. Never did get it running properly under Windows 7/8/10. Also I thought 1.4b WAS the latest ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lagerea · 2021-03-09 12:33 There is a FAQ for a 1.6b: http://www.irc.org/ftp/pub/pub/irc/clients/ msdos/win3/xircon/tcl/xircfaq.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- crimsaq · 2021-03-09 13:47 I loved using it back in the day! The same problems plagued me recently, and I've had to resort to irssi on linux, and hexchat in windows. IRC for life! ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shubjero · 2021-03-09 15:16 I remember Xircon w/ Kano. It was a solid alternative to others at the time. I cut my teeth with mIRC and ircN script and for a brief period remember using Xircon w/ Kano. On Linux I used BitchX. These days I've stopped using irssi in favour of Weechat. On Windows if I don't feel like opening up an Ubuntu terminal (awesome btw) I'll just use Hexchat. Hexchat is a fairly recent discovery for me and I just use the version made for Windows 7 since it's free. I still use IRC every day to talk to some life long friends I met on IRC in the 90's but also professionally since I work with a lot of big open source projects and many of them live on FreeNode. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-03-10 01:43 I used it, but I think I always preferred mIRC ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrstevemosher · 2021-04-28 14:35 Ahh loved it with Kano back in like 98 :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IntuitiveNZ · 2021-05-25 11:05 Yes. It was the first IRC client I ever used, then I moved to mIRC, and now to XChat. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IntuitiveNZ · 2021-05-25 11:06 and I can't find a copy of the original website on archive.org but, I didn't find a Windows binary on the Debian site: http://ftp.be.debian.org/ftp.irc.org/clients/windows/xircon/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- highbaud · 2022-09-01 13:40 Xircon was great ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lagerea · 2022-09-01 13:42 Unrivaled. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-03-22 04:08 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-03-22 04:08 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-03-22 04:08 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-03-22 04:08 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-03-22 04:08 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-03-22 04:09 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-03-22 04:09 [removed]
