Router firewall and software firewall to protect ipv4

I know this isnt the topic of the sub, but its related to irc.

Its my first time using irc was searching about how to hide my ip and
came across a comment telling people that hiding you ip doesnt do much
and that the ipv4 is way more insecure, and that thats what we should
actually try to protect.

The comment also talked about the fact that routers have a firewall,
and people who dont use routers only have the software firewall.

So i was wondering, if you use a router and disable your software
firewall, will you still have the router firewall active, or once you
disable the software firewall, your router firewall deactivates too or
becomes useless?

I am not very well versed in irc. As far as firewalls go, I would
recommend using the firewall that come with your operating system in
conjunction with your routers firewall. However, neither of these will
really provide you anonymity. I would recommend looking into a paid
vpn service (I use nordvpn, but it is a hotly debated topic). There is
definitely a ton of resources that will help to understand if you
spend a few hours on google. Start with how ip and ports work and then
look up firewalls. The more you know about networking, the more you
will be able to keep yourself safe. If you're asking this question it
would probably behoove you to study up. In my experience it is all
about discovering how to ask the right questions.

tl:dr Keep your fire wall on, get a vpn, and probably don't worry
about it.

I will try to study more about the topic

And about the vpn, i actually tried using proton vpn, but i just wasnt
able to connect to rizon. So i guess i will try to fix that, and
chill, lol
