!get command

How do I get the !get command to work?  Options I need to enable in
client?  Ports open?  Running Hexchat.

it would largely depend what server, channel, etc you're in. there's
literally hundreds of thousands of options for that to "work". even as
simple as someone having a script on their client to react to it. More
details would be necessary. "IRC" itself has zero "!" commands built
in.

I chatted with the channel operator, the channel has the script for
commands.  Operator was able to see that I had made the request, but
was unable to download on my end.  Operator said it was potentially
due to DCC allow - which I have as auto accept - , closed ports, or
the router itself.  I guess I will just do it the old fashioned way.

There's no 'spec' for a !get command, it could mean different things
in different places.

But generally for file transfers it uses a protocol called DCC.

What happens with a DCC is this:

* The person sending the file opens a listening port
* their client then sends the filename and port for the transfer to
your client.
* Your client then connects to that port
* As soon as the connection is opened, the sending server streams the
file's content over that connection.
* Your client saves it to the download folder using the filename sent
in the DCC response.

I understand that the !get command is for downloading a file.  I was
in a chat room, searched for a file, and did the !get file since it
was allowed.  I can receive DCC in the other rooms by the /msg command
line with no issues.  The !get command is not coming through.  Hence,
me asking if there was a separate option in preferences I needed to
fix, or a port that needed to be open.   I will just do the /msg
command line to avoid a headache.  Again, appreciate the insight.
